So I have an '06 TSX that has run for about 5K miles and is in need of oil change. I call up the dealership and they quoted a whopping $105 for tire rotation, oil change and topping other liquids. Do you guys think that I'm better off getting the first maintenance at the dealership?? I could get all this done at a Jiffy lube for < 30 bucks. Any ideas? 8/18/2006 12:12:52 PM |

your car came with synthetic oil, so I wouldn't recommend taking it some place where they don't use mobil1. 8/18/2006 12:16:02 PM |

Walmart does a mobil 1 synthetic oil change, but be aware that they will fuck your shit up (Strip drain plugs and shit) and use a shitty filter. 8/18/2006 12:24:04 PM |

you have a new car worth near 30k, don't cheap out trying to save $10 a month by going to chain places who'll likely mess your shit up.

doesn't acura recommend 10,000 for that model - or is 5k just for the first change 8/18/2006 12:30:42 PM |

^ They recommended 10K when they were selling the car, but the oil change indicator (maintenance minder) ont he dash says it needs a change. 8/18/2006 12:32:37 PM |

especially when you only need to get an oil change every 10k - don't skimp
is acura's "maintenance minder" based on time/mileage or does it have an oil tester that it is using
your car came with a manual

^the maintenance minder is based on the oil level.. it says 10% oil remaining and has to be refilled.. besides, the dealer wants to do a tire rotation as well. 8/18/2006 1:00:54 PM |

You could save yourself $50 and rotate the tires in less than 30 minutes yourself. 8/18/2006 1:05:41 PM |

^^ Do you really don't think your brand new acura lost 90% of its oil between changes 8/18/2006 1:07:04 PM |

yeah a brand new acura shouldn't be using any oil... are you sure that monitor isn't just for oil quality? my car gives an oil quality percentage starting at 100% quality when I first get it changed and declining from there... 8/18/2006 1:30:15 PM |

^on second thought, given his interpretation of his oil meter I don't think he can handle rotating the tires 8/18/2006 1:32:58 PM |

this is hardly a $10 difference we're talking about here.
and a tire rotation at 5k miles, doesn't that seem a little early to anyone else? as for other fluids, etc... it's a brand new car!
The stealership is trying to rip him off.

$100 at 10k miles vs $30 at 3k 8/18/2006 2:33:21 PM |

who actually changes their oil every 3k though.....
and, even though acura says 10k, i'll be damned if i'm gonna go that long w/o changing the oil, that's just me. 8/18/2006 2:38:58 PM |

^If I'm running a synthetic oil and a good filter, I'll go 10k and not think twice about it. I already run 5k+ on regular dino juice. Teh Cummins gets a change every 6k to 7k, but it holds 13 quarts. 8/18/2006 2:51:00 PM |

with synthetic, sure.
The Acura's manual is talking about regular oil, with any old cheap-o filter because they make no mention of synthetic.
and that's just crazy to me. 8/18/2006 2:58:21 PM |
