I'm thinking of becoming one...anyone here doing/done this? Did you get a degree first? Lateral Entry? Licensure after a degree?
Just trying to gather more information since the NCCU and NCSU education sites don't specify for "art"...and also since it's nearly impossible to get an actual person on the phone who knows what they are talking about. 8/18/2006 4:42:37 PM |

This is your best bet:

Unless you already have a degree, then you'll want to find out if UNCG or any other school has a licensure program. I know State does for science, math, and social studies, but I'm not sure about art. 8/18/2006 4:59:01 PM |

Yeah, they don't have a licesure for art...just math and science at all levels and english middle and high school but only middle if you're working as a teacher while you get your licensure. I know NC Central is the closest for licensure...I'm just concerned about not having a job.
Thanks for the link...did you ever find a job? 8/18/2006 5:13:22 PM |

Awesome. Thanks for the help and yes, please send along her contact. I'll bttt this when I get my transcript reviewed 8/20/2006 11:56:19 PM |

^^Art supplies are so expensive...she should be estatic she got one at a magnet school where they offer more for special classes, like art and music.
^Did she go to school for it or was she lateral entry? 8/21/2006 10:43:48 AM |

Good Grief.
I am really looking for something full-time currently so I can begin in January with this whole process. $1200 really is a good amount but I doubt if I'd just be able to walk into a position at a magnet school right away but here's to dreaming! 8/21/2006 10:57:05 AM |

^^ My mom went to school for art. She got her national teachers certification as well I think. I don't know much about how she got started teaching or how you would do it now, but I'm sure she knows all about it. 8/21/2006 10:59:22 AM |
