Later in the season is no more significant. If you are aiming for a national title, the computers don't look at when you get the L. One team will move closer to the Zona' and one will need a lot of help.

^ I don't know, the margin of victory in Ohio State's win over N. Illinois (23) looked questionable when compared to Texas margin of victory over North Texas (49). Should be a better game, but as of right now, Texas looks like the better prepared team offensively.

Its not backpeddling. The top 10 is pretty much the top 10, the rankings in that are pretty much mute. Now if you aren't even ranked, or out of the top ten, then that matters.
