I was asked to recover the data on a hdd today and stumbled upon this. He said to backup all his .doc and .xls files, but i wonder if i should call him about this...


I'd be pissed if I lost that much porn. He's got everygoddamn thing in here.

I would just say you found additional files other than the .doc and .xls files and ask for verbal/written confirmation if you should restore those as well. You can be vague about it and say "some jpegs, some mp3s, some text files", etc. Oh, and make a copy for yourself.

i got busted this way once.

i was in middle school (maybe early high school) and i had dled porn to my parents computer. the computer crashed one day and they took it in to be serviced. service man found a bunch of porn and told my parents about it.

We had a guy come in and said he needed everything in his "My Documents" folder backed up before we formatted his computer. Turns out, in his "My Video" folder was about 56 GB of porn. We politely called back and said backing up all the "videos" would take too much space and too much time.

We didn't back up his data...but we did take a screenshot for proof. It's our record for amount of porn found so far!

Measuring it in GB isn't really an accurate amount of how much you have. Back in the day I used to download and burn 9GB ISO images. 3-5 per day, whatever I could find. I remember hitting close to half a TB of download in a one month span. I still have 10-12 50 packs of Burned dvds in my closet.

Of course if you're only talking straight up pictures, that's quite a few. I guess that's could also be several full length divx movies too.

That being said, I just checked my "best of..." folder and it weighs in at a little under 88GB. Which could explain why I'm absolutely sick and tired of porn these days.

My personal favorite:

I come in to work (this was way back when I worked PT at the "Geek Squad"), and start reading service orders. I get to this one desktop, and the service order reads: "Virus/Spyware Removal, Norton AV Install. Customer also would like all pornography removed from machine, except for folder named "Debbie".

Needless to say that after a second look to make sure I'd really read that right, I commenced rolling on the floor. Took us almost an hour to find "Debie", since it was buried deep in a subfolder and misspelled so it didn't turn up on a search. It was a whole set of pics of home-made pr0n of a guy and girl. Later the guy comes in with his wife to get the computer, and I realize the guy is the one in the pictures, and the girl in them is most certainly NOT his wife. Fun stuff.
