Nagin Takes Swipe at NYC 9-11 Rebuilding
Ray Nagin Criticizes Delays in World Trade Center Redevelopment During '60 Minutes' Interview

NEW YORK Aug 24, 2006 (AP)— New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin criticized efforts to redevelop the World Trade Center site when confronted in a television interview about delays in rebuilding his city after Hurricane Katrina.

During the "60 minutes" interview, a correspondent pointed out flood-damaged cars still on the streets of New Orleans' devastated Ninth Ward. Nagin replied, "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and it's five years later. So let's be fair," according to CBS.

The program is scheduled to air Sunday night. Text and a video clip from the Nagin piece were posted on CBS' Web site Thursday.

The chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., the agency created to oversee the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and downtown Manhattan, said that tremendous progress has been made in lower Manhattan, with the Freedom Tower, a transportation hub and a memorial to the nearly 3,000 attack victims under construction.

"We understand how difficult rebuilding a city after such destruction can be," chairman Kevin Rampe said in a statement.

Nagin, known for his blunt style, is not the first to compare the two cities. New Orleans residents frequently complain that the federal government's response after Katrina has been far more sluggish than it was after the Sept. 11 attacks.

I don't think they've even decided on a design for the new structure.

Ray Nagin, Mayor of Ad Hominem

To be fair though, it takes a lot of time to make all the chocolate bricks needed to build a chocolate city.

Winnar.

Also, what a dumb thread. These two things aren't exactly the same. I don't even fathom the comparison.

Are you still trying to pin the Bush administration's incompetence on him?

Hey.

Bush isn't the only one that can try and gain political power from 9/11.

again pryderi...stop being your typical idiot liberal self...

im said nothing about president bush's incompetance in that situation...which is obvious....this thread is about the pathetic mayor of new orleans....who is more incompetant than anyone else in this particular situation...he did not help NO before the flood nor has he done very much for anyone since then

if you would stop existing only to hate BWG you have read my comments correctly

Mind backing up your generalizations with some documentation on Nagin's incompetence?

Are you being serious of sarcastic? B/c a new 55 story building opened up a few months ago.

They have decided on a design for the Freedom tower. They technically broke ground a few months back on it, but were then slowed down by some construction union going on strike (holy fuck!). And there's the issue of whether the involved parties can afford the billions required, not to mention the insurance Co for the WTC hasn't paid up yet.

Oh yeah, and the Deuscheland building still hasn't been demolished yet. Due to toxins, etc. they have to dismantle the building piece by piece instead of blowing it up. fucking ridiculous.
