Probably the most expensive police car, aside from the Gallardo in Italy and 911 in Germany. Ha, it is funny the brits have Lexuses as top-end police cars... why not some British car? XJR? XKR? S Type-R? Aston? TVR?

BTW, the GS 450h starts at $55,500 in the US, but as you guys should know, cars in the UK typically cost 1.5 times as much as in the US. The starting price there is the equivalent of $72,000, and a fully loaded one costs $89,000 ($63,000 in the US).

[The RX 400h, also used by police in the UK, isn't cheap either, starting at $69,000, and running up to $85,000]

Hmm, I wonder if they would order a couple of LS 600h's soon, to be used for taking white collar criminals back and forth from police station to court!

Don't piss off the police in Wiltshire county... you don't want to be chased by a 340 hp machine that can do 0-60 mph in about 5.2 seconds!

Lexus GS 450H Unmarked Police Cars (UK)

Quote :
"Following on from the successful trial of the Lexus RX 400h by Hampshire Police in August last year, Wiltshire Constabulary will be the first police force in the country to incorporate the recently launched high performance Lexus GS 450h to their fleet.

The GS 450h takes hybrid performance to a new level combining a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with a high output electric motor. These systems combine to provide a maximum output of 341bhp achieving a 0-62mph acceleration in 5.9 seconds [0-60 tested at 5.2 in the US]. The performance matches conventional V8 petrol engines but has significantly lower fuel consumption (35.8mpg combined cycle) and CO2 emissions of 186g/km.

“The Lexus will be used by Wiltshire Police for varied traffic duties,” advised Steve Botham Police Fleet Manager of Wiltshire Constabulary. “The force is continuing to trial hybrid and environmentally friendly vehicles. The Lexus GS 450h gives the force the opportunity to operate a high performance hybrid vehicle in a demanding police role.”

Andy Simpson, National Corporate and Remarketing Manager for Lexus (GB) Ltd said, “The increasing interest in hybrid technology continues to strengthen our customer base with professional bodies. With two hybrids already in the model line-up and a third, the LS 600h, joining mid 2007 Lexus will have the most diverse hybrid range of any manufacturer.”"

NC Law states that you cannot have RED or BLUE lights on your car other than how it came from factory. A buddy of mines got ticketed in Cary for having some red neons underneath his car. Of course, this was Cary and cops here have nothing better to do.

Morrisville cops have a unmarked burgandy mustang GT. I did a double take at it pulling some people over.

The day cops get smart and start rolling around in champagne colored honda accords will be the day I start riding a scooter.

No, but trees in decreasing-radius corners and cars driven by elderly people/women pulling out in front of you are reason enough not to do such shit.

When the cop eventually catches you, he might have to pick up all your body parts that are all over everywhere.

while we're on this topic...

Is it legal to have police sirens on your car? The other day while stuck in traffic on I-40, a black Chevy SUV with Chromes wanted to cut in in front of me and so he turned on some "whoop whoop" police car sounds. I was like, WTF? black+chrome != police It was unmarked and the driver looked like a fat redneck. I wasn't going to sit there and argue, so I just let him cut. Should have wrote down his license plate#, but I was too puzzled to think about it.

^^^^ a redneck friend of mine in HS had this knightrider style red LED flashy light bar thing on the front of his truck. He said he would turn it on in traffic and ppl would move over, thinking he was FD or something.

I think the M5 from the older gumball 3000's with the police stickers and lights was a cool car. Then they switched to the Bently GT.

Not nearly quite as insane, but I saw a test car pulling into the Highway patrol station a couple weeks ago. The one where you always see the old cruisers for sale across from the fairgrounds. The one I saw was more white and had "TESTER" written on the back. Not a 75,000, but certainly more tax payer dollars at 27,000 and would be interesting to see driving around raleigh.

with all the sitting in traffic and shit that many cops do (obviously not State Troopers too much), they could really take advantage of a hybrid

I heard the first set of chargers geared towards as police interceptors were a v6 varient, but then they decided to use a v8 power plant instead... I forgot where I read that from.

The chargers are on the state contract for law enforcement now. They cost $20,445 if purchased under the contract. The Crown Vics cost $21,200.
