I was curious if there was a software solution that allowed you to use your windows based cell phone/pda as a street level navigation device. I remember seeing an article on it recently but can't find it. Anyone know if this is possible?

T-mobile doesn't use gps, but there are gps receivers and software that work with windows mobile devices. this is better than the stuff in the commercials because you just have to buy it, there is no monthly fee.

i have sprint and one of the programs you can download for $9.99/month charge is a GPS program that allows you to use your phone as GPS navigator. I dont have it but the directions say it is just like the ones in automobiles with voice turn by turn directions and sh|t like that

Verizon Wireless has a pretty sweet system for its phones called VZNavigator. It is turn-by-turn audible directions.

The price for this software is Free for the first 30 days, and then $2.99/24-period or $9.99/month subscription.

all you need is a gps receiver that will connect to your device with bluetooth and whatever software you want. im pretty sure microsoft streets and trips pocket will work with gps. then there is gps thats more geared for off the road type stuff, it just depends on what you want.

if you look around for message boards associated with your device you probably wont have a hard time finding a device that someone recomends.


but since you have to buy a gps receiver and software you might want to just buy a gps device

just google "bluetooth gps receiver" then read reviews and stuff to make sure it will work with your device. after looking around i see a lot of stuff mentioning copilot and ms streets

in conclusion:
your phone does not already have a gps antenna. sprint, verizon, nextel users can just pay whatever a month and use provider supported software solutions, but you have to buy a gps antenna. you will get to use your phones display but have to sacrifice battery life. you might as well buy a totally seperate gps device.

ah ok, i was hoping that it did.

i've used an ipaq with a GPS jacket before and that worked beautifully. guess ill research some bluetooth solutions. thanks for the info!
