it should have been on campus in a more central location to maximize the # of hits - but will probably get more greek life involved this way i guess

^^The Cross also doesn't want gay blood either. I mean they'll take it, but only from people willing to lie about it.

I think that if you're going to let in dishonest people, you should let in honest people too. Or atleast allow exceptions for people who can show themselves negative for aids on blood tests & who are in monogamous relationships, and a few more hoops to jump through, to let in a few of the honest people.

As is, they are taking in less clean blood, but not stopping this "risky behavior group" from donating. I think there is probably some correlation between general honesty & number of sex partners/risky behavior, so I think mostly they are only stopping good blood from coming in, but not blocking the bad blood they don't want, just to keep up a no gay blood policy at the cross.

They have to test a sample of each donation anyways. Asking if you are gay is just an archaic question used to intimidate. Gay people who lie and donate are not bad people and I dont think there's a correlation between general dishonesty and sexual history- that's just judgemental in and of itself.

I think someone who is dishonest might be more willing to cheat and thus have more sexual partners...

And I don't really think gay people who lie and donate are bad people, I just think they shouldn't have to lie to do it.

Just an FYI:
This is being done at Fraternity Court for a number of reasons
1. To get Greek Life involved by holding it in our back yard
2. To encourage off-campus students to donate... I live off-campus and hate going on campus for anything other than class... we're accessible, have plenty of parking, and less traffic

Thank you to all of you who signed up and I look forward to meeting you if I'm there during your donation time!

I think that is just too blanket of a statement to make.

How can the fact that someone who is dishonest, IN ORDER TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE, somehow equate to general dishonesty and lead to a general dishonesty about loving someone and cheating? The core of the original dishonesty is not for personal gain or wealth but a general feeling of humanity and helping. For that non-personal gain to somehow equal a dishonesty in relationships and an increased sexual history just does not seem to compute. There are just too many facets of lying for a single person but I don't think, in this case, one facet leads to another- and that drawing a conclusion about that person's sexuality and being more likely to cheat.... well I doubt that validity.

my main point is they shouldn't have to lie to donate clean blood. so i'll give up defending a lesser point so that i don't side track too much.

End of Tuesday Update:
Today was a great hit... we made our goal and took as many donations as the Red Cross could do in one afternoon!

Please make appointments if you'd like to come tomorrow... we had quite a delay after dinner time tonight because of all the walk-ups (hey... I'm not complaining... but I would like to get you all on your way ASAP)

Tomorrow:
1pm - 5:30pm
sign up for appointments at the website in my first post!
