eBay buying gun shock

Quote :
"
By SUN ONLINE REPORTER
A MAN who bought a car on eBay was robbed at gunpoint when he went to hand over the cash.

Shahzad Ali Shah, 23 was told by the seller of a Mercedes Benz Kompressor C180 that a cash purchase would secure him his dream car.

Mr Ali Shah told a newspaper: “The man said if I paid in cash he would not offer it to anyone else."

“He said if I had the cash, the car was available and we could do the deal straight away. I put in an offer for £5,500 and he accepted.”

An eBay spokesman said it was the first such incident involving website users that he was aware of."

Really, tho, an offer of 5500 pounds for a c180 is trash even on ebay. Then, he agreed to secure his transaction without ebay's approval by paying in cash at the sellers *request*???

This guy was asking to get robbed.

Yeah that would creep me out.

Only do deals during the day. I am very protective of my address anyway. When you compromise your address doing anonymous deals over the internet, you're asking for trouble. You never know if they see something they like in your apartment or what they can gather about you in just a few minutes of walking around.

My boyfriend's mother is buying a couch. She called me up yesterday evening(dark out) and asked if I would go with her to see it, she wanted my opinion. I was like sure and so I get in the car. On the way she tells me she's glad I'm coming along and that she found it on craigslist and that "you can never be sure about those weirdos and which ones wont kill you and I'm glad you're coming with me" and such and such .... and I'm thinking ... what, so they can kill me also???....

5500 pounds! Isn't that a bit light for a Kompressor?

No, bringing collateral is smart because it's simple math that two targets double the requried amount of attacks.

It's cuz you're a thug and you're packing heat.

That's why she asked you to come.

Craigslist people don't make it past my front porch. That way they don't get to see anything they couldn't see from the street.

I do wonder about disgruntled buyers though...What if I sell something and it breaks the next week? I'd hate to have to dole out a beatdown in my own yard because someone came back talking shit.

dude has gotta be able to trace something based on the guy's eBay account name...find his paypal name then find address from past transactions or something

unless the dude just made a new ebay name and had no previous auctions...in which case the guy was kind of a retard for buying a CAR from somebody with zero feedback

^^ Could've been a hacked account. Scammers rip people off with them all the time.

Craigslist is so shitty, all the electronic stuff on there is used and beaten like a fat chick.

I'd be hesitant to buy any electronic that was used, especially something that has a laser. I got a cell phone off Craigslist cheap and easy though, but the person described the only blemish. Anytime someone suggests paying that type of cash with regards to the Ebay situation, which I'm guessing transalates into about 9 grand in cash, wouldn't there be a red flag raised in your mind.

Eh, I've made dozens of Craigslist sales without any real problems. The only annoyance I've had is the Indian guys who "accidentally" don't bring enough money (IE $20 short) and try to use that as an excuse to make you sell for less. When you tell them too bad and to get out, they usually magically find the missing $20 at the bottom of a back pocket.

I honestly play along with the $20 missing thing. Once when they did that, I changed the price to $20 higher on him and said he had to pay and that it was the original price. I started calling the cops and saying they will bust him for being illegal as well if he didn't pay.

I won. But to this day I am scared that he placed an IED somewhere in the front yard.

I had one pack of Indians try to knock 20 bucks off of a tv I was selling after they came to pick it up because it didn't have an antenna.... I didn't know people still used those...

But I did knock of 20 because it was heavier than I thought and they carried it downstairs.
