so far i've only really considered 2 options based on price

that one i can get for around 17 or 18 after shipping

and this one

which i can get for about 25 after shipping

would ebay/craigslist be the better route, and are these logitech models even good?

ebay/craigslist only if you absolutely want it right now, and want it uber-cheap. i've always felt like buying a really nice mouse is a luxury worth affording yourself, since you'll be using it basically all the time. might as well buy something that you'll enjoy using, or at least won't piss you off every 5 minutes.

and if you're a thumb-baller, i'd say that the second of those would probably feel more natural.

I still use my Logitech Trackman Marble+ that I bought in 1999 or so. The discontinued that model for the second one you have shown there. Personally, I prefer the onder one - it's bigger and has a larger area for resting your hand. You can find them on e-bay, but they are expensive as devotees pay a lot for them - a recent sale of one that was never opened and had the USB connector went for over $100 if I remember correctly.

I never liked the lager middle ball type - might be good for things like artwork and CAD, but for gaming it sucks balls.

i agree with the old trackman marble. it was the heat.

i've got the wireless newer trackball and it's ok, but it's too small for most hands. i'm looking for a reasonably priced trackman marble.
