Here’s the breakdown of each division:

<lj-cut text="My analysis">

AFC
<U>North </U>
The torch has been passed--The Bengals are back and will make up for lost time. The Ravens will supplant the reigning Super Bowl champs for second. Even with Big Ben back, the Steelers will be the first defending champions since 2003 to miss the postseason as their roster losses will be too much for them to bear. As far as the Browns go, Kellen or no Kellen, the “fucking soldier” will be of little help as this ball club will dwell in the cellar once again.

<U>South</U>
The Colts will fall back to grace. If Peyton and Tony thought that the pressure was on them before, they haven’t seen anything yet. They will move closer from HAVEN’T won the Big One to CAN’T win the Big One. The Jaguars and Titans are a couple years away from switching places even if Tennessee has Kerry Collins this year. The Texans will be a lot better than their record as Mario Williams will set out to quiet ALL of his critics who have dogged him and the franchise since the draft.

<U>East </U>
I’ve waited quite a while to say this: PATRIOTS FANS, STOP YOUR WHINING! PLEASE! Your dynasty began on a fluke call (remember the “tuck rule?”), and it was only appropriate that it ended on a fluke call (the “pass interference” that may or may not have happened). Your team got what it deserved against Denver, end of story. Now, the Pats will come crashing back to Planet Earth the hard way. The Dolphins are currently the only threat in this dog of a division, and even Nick Saban’s coaching has to come into question.

<U>West</U>
This division is no better than the East, but at least the Chiefs and Chargers have something build on in the future, which isn’t something that can be said for the Silver and Black. The Chargers will take a step back before taking two steps forward as Foley’s arrest proves. Anyway, This is Jake Plummer’s last chance to reach the Big Game.

NFC
<U>North</U>
The Bears run away with this division. I can’t even say much of anything about the other three teams except that I was real generous with Detroit since they got rid of Deadweight Harrington.

<U>South</U>
The Panthers are more than ready to take their place among the great Super Bowl teams like the Packers of the 60s, the Steel Curtain and Cowboys of the 70s, and the Niners of the 80s as the Cardiac Cats finally bring Charlotte its first championship. The Buccaneers will be dealt with by the Cats. This season will once again show why Michael Vick is the MOST OVERRATED PLAYER IN THE NFL. We’ll also see if Reggie is worth all the hype (as in Rookie of the Year) as he and Drew Brees are overpowered in an extremely tough division.

<U>East</U>
The T.O. Experiment will work only this year before it all falls apart in Big D. If Clinton Portis can return before Week 8, then the Redskins get into the postseason at the Giants’ expense. Otherwise, the standings you see will be what you get. I just don’t see the Eagles being a threat this year. Since I won’t say the cliché, I’ll just say this--if the last place team finishes 9-7 or division winner has a 7-9 record, don’t count me as one of the surprised ones.

<U>West</U>
For years and years, the Cardinals have been an embarrassment to the state of Arizona. It all changes this year, but merely because of a fluke. You see, my friends, ever since 1998, the Super Bowl loser (usually the NFC champ) has been so unlucky as to miss the playoffs virtually every year. That pattern will continue despite Seattle’s winning record. The Seahawks have the double misfortune of having Shaun Alexander on the cover of a certain EA video game. Until proven otherwise, you had better believe that the EA Jinx is REAL.

After last night, you can be sure the Vikings are going to win more than 6. They may even challenge the Bears for the NFC North.
