I have this family tree program that runs slow when I ask it to make charts. it is only using abt 5-10 megs of memory. I have a gig. Is there any way I can force it to use more?

Um if it's just a shitty program it's not running slow because it's not using enough memory. It could be a graphics driver issue (make sure that's up to date.) It could also just be a very shitily written piece of software.

In a short answer, no. Unless the program specifically allows you to specify somewhere you want it to use additional system resources (i.e. memory), you can't force a program to intentionally use memory when it want it to. As Char said, it's probably poor written and/or outdated.
