I was supposedly clocked 80mph in a 60 zone (85-north in Gastonia) and there's no way that's correct. I KNOW I was holding a constant 70mph (I check my speed every couple seconds, always). It was labor day weekend with lots of traffic but I had come into a clear spot. It was just me and a mustang. The mustang slightly faster but only by about 1mph or so; from the cop's vantage point, he would have seen me instead of the mustang. There was no way the mustang was doing 80mph either. I know speeding is speeding, but HP embellishing it is still a crock..

Cop pulls me over claiming 80 in a 60, but I didn't contest it when I had the chance. He drops me to 75 in a 60 and gives me the ticket.

Anyone have experience/luck with representing yourself and pleaing innocent? How did it go?

Your word vs cop's word= you always will lose. However, he should have radar record of what he clocked you at to back it up.

In the future, you should ask to see the gun when you are pulled over.

im gonna tell you 2 things. if you didnt know them both, get a lawyer

1) your trial will be that same day if you plead not guilty
2) there is no jury

Anything over 70 is classified as a midemeanor not an infraction. You should try to get that reduced to 69 for insurance purposes and for your record.

So going 75 in a 70 is a bigger crime than going 70 in a 65?

actually the law is

15mph over the limit, OR an offense clocked at 80mph or greater = class 2 misdemeanor

Last time I had to pull my criminal report it had a 74 in a 60 conviction and it said it was a misdemeanor.
