I've heard West German is utter shit. Thoughts?
Shade Tree Garage, on the other hand, is very good. Well worth the drive IMO. 9/11/2006 4:27:19 PM |

I emailed shade tree, but they haven't emailed me back yet. They don't list the phone number on their website, so I can't call them. 9/11/2006 4:29:30 PM |

You can get their number from Anywho.com. They are just two guys with no secretary or service writer, so they take a little while to get back to you.
But, I know a few people that go to them and I've yet to hear anything but positive feedback about their work. I've been there once and was very impressed.
It's nice to actually talk to the mechanic about your car instead of getting a service writer who would love to get you to dump more money into it than you actually need.

if the computer has a self test outlet under the hood somewhere, run a wire from the negative batt terminal to the self test connector then turn the key to on and count the blinks on the check engine light. 9/11/2006 7:12:24 PM |

Turn the car off, put the key in the accessory position, tap the gas pedal rhythmically 5 times making sure you fully depress it.......it sometimes takes a few tries to get the timing exactly right (its pretty picky about the timing with which you tap the gas pedal, when done right it takes about 2 seconds to press the pedal 5 times) but when you get it right the check engine light will flash, it will then flash the code to you, i.e.
Flashes once to let you know its about to flash the code
Flashes 3 times, stops.....3 Flashes 2 times, stops.....2 Flashes 2 times, stops.....2 Flashes 1 time, stops.......1
The error code is 3221
P.S. - This only works on OBDI BMWs

I've gotten my 95 M3 to do it, it just takes some patience sometimes getting the rhythm of the tapping down but once you get it its pretty easy to repeat it 9/12/2006 8:15:37 PM |
