can anyone give me some good part recommendations to go into a new computer for the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor? the computer will be for gaming, movie editing, dvd burning, and possibly some CAD work. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103747
i was thinkin for a motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131024 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220095
that's all i got so far. the motherboard i'm struggling with brands on newegg. i read a lot of reviews for different brands and i couldnt really find a clear cut brand to go with. i chose that Asus board because i have an asus board now and have no complaints. but maybe you guys know of somethin better? 9/12/2006 10:40:09 AM |

asus is good but i might go a set up from that one to the m2n-e thats still under 100 with a better chipset http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131022 and check the compatibility of that ram cause am2 stuff is picky, unless theyve solved that problem

the CPU i'm lookin at is the AM2 socket, not 939. the reason for that is cause i want to get into the DDR2 realm of things away from DDR. and i checked just now the memory guidelines on AMD's website and this is all it says:
Quote : | "Socket AM2
* PC2-3200, PC2-4200, PC2-5300 & PC2-6400 unbuffered memory modules. * 240-pin 1.8-Volt DDR2 DIMMs. * 128-bit DDR2 memory bus. * Supports 128-Mbyte, 256-Mbyte, 512-Mbyte, 1-Gbyte, 2-Gbyte, 4-Gbyte and 8-Gbyte memory technology. * Supports production DIMMs from industry standard DRAM memory manufacturers.

so i think the RAM i have selected will be compatible and work alright.
also, i'll look into m2n-e mobo. i did glance at that 1 but some of the reviews i didnt like too well. i'll look closer at it though.

yea u meet the spec with that ram but these am2 boards are pickier than that i hear. they say u really do need to get ram thats on the Qualified vendor list http://www.asus.com/999/download/products/1171/1171_10.pdf others probablly work but this is what they say

haha yea i saw that but i also saw that for my existing Asus mobo that said i couldnt use corsair xms RAM but i'm using it now and have since the day i built the original system. i've had no RAM issues with it so most likely i will get the patriot anyway, even if i change mobo brand.
reviews on that asus m2n-e have me a bit skeptical because of all the bad things said about it in late august, early sept by different people. so i think i will keep my options open. 9/13/2006 10:16:58 AM |
