Overpaying for movies and TV shows has nothing to do with being a fanboy.

I do think it's pretty stupid however.

Law and Order: SVU
Monk
Psych
24

Desperate Housewives....

$1.99 an episode vs $100/month for cable that i never watch....i think i'll stick to itunes and keep my cable canceled.

According to the popup window that comes up when you enable cover art download, they don't save any info.

It also has a new cool Cover Flow browsing interface to browse by album art.

Also of note is that the new iPods can apparently play 640x480 MPEG4 and MPEG4-AVC content back at full 30 FPS.

So the new iTunes playback becomes all crackly and full of pops after about ten minutes of play.

wtf.

Time to find and reinstall the old version.

No previous version of iTunes, nor any other software for that matter, has ever done this.

I'm not saying it has nothing to do with my computer, but the source is obviously iTunes 7.

Yeah, mine started crackling too, and was also playing 95% of the sound out of my front two speakers (got a 5.1 system.) I then opened Windows media player to see what was up and the music played through all my speakers like it is supposed to. So yeah, there are definitely some sound issues with the latest iTunes.

This auto-get-artwork thing serves as a good reminder of how little is really available on iTunes.

problem is you have to have the 'exactly correct' album name and info...if you have info under something like composer or have the wrong genre selected it won't find it. I ran into this problem too but i got it working when i fixed the names of a few albums...

out of 264 it found 258 with no problems....

and i'm not having any problems with itunes on my apple or vista 64bit as far as playback...dunno what could be causing the crackling.

I read some stuff on apple's official itunes boards, and apparently it changes some of the Quicktime settings which can cause some of these problems. Messing with those settings helped some of those people. The topic is here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=637584&tstart=0. I haven't tried any of it yet since I'm at work.

k, i got it fixed. open up quicktime's preferences, and under the audio tab, check it to 48 kHz and 16 bit size. make sure to restart itunes after changing that.

12 bucks a week, comes out to 48 bucks a month to watch 6 shows.

I'll stick to my 75 channels of basic cable and RR for $29.95 a month and my PC to record the same ones you have to watch at my convienance. And save 18 bucks a month.

Oh, and I love how they ADVERTISE the jump in quality to 640*480, like "Near DVD quality" is a good thing. For fucking 2 dollars an episode or 13 for a movie, I would DAMN WELL want an HD file, not even DVD.

its not convenient for me to have to set up my DVR and record the shows and then have to delete them because i ran out of space....this is money wasted since any time i sit infront of my TV its either to A) watch an HD DVD or B) play Xbox 360 or C) watch the world cup (which is only every 4 years)....plus i was paying $89 just for cable tv

however...by spending less money i can watch my favorite tv shows anytime i want, download them only when i feel like watching it...keep it forever, watch it on a road trip in the car, in the plane, sitting at the doctors office for hours....etc...I can also watch it in my office while 'working' or doing something else on the computer.

not saying this applies for everyone but for me its much more convenient. Plus i only pay for what i watch...i some times go a month or two without watching any tv show...or even turning on my TV which means i just wasted $89/month

Plus shows like Monk and Psych don't have a new episode coming on everyweek. Also same applies to Lost, desperate housewives and Law and Order....the networks usually have a dead week where its just a repeat of the week before...so its really more accurate to calculate $2 x how many episodes in a season...vs per week per month.

time is money.

waiting 4 days for one episode to download because not everyone out there likes it as much as you so there is only 1 or 2 seeds if you're lucky, is not my idea of efficent or onDemmand.

the pain costs involved in itunes and apple drm are enough to keep me away from them forever.

then they go and add a $2 charge for a low quality rip.

nothx.

microsoft could crush some folks if they offered a subscription video service that let you watch unlimited movies and shows in WMplayer, 360, and zune.

i wish that would be awesome.

^^ i used to have a DVR and it sucked because half the time i'd forget to record what i wanted to watch...other than that its pretty cool...I used to use MCE2005 before i got a HD DVR through TMW, then i canceled that shit.

oh and commercials? even fast forwarding through them is anoying as hell. The fast forward feature sucks, by the time you see the show started and hit play it takes a long delay for the unit to recognize that you've pressed play and you've missed a few minutes of the show

and as far as other great shows like Over There and Rome, i just wait for the DVD and buy it so i can watch it almost straight through like a really long movie.

I am listening to Dark Side of the Moon to celebrate the arrival of gapless playback.

And yes, I know some shitty Windows player had that 984234142343 years ago. iTunes was already the best, but picking up long-needed features sweetens the deal.

Exactly. I've downloaded episodes of Scrubs (my favorite comedy right now) for free when there was no legal alternative, but now that they provide them, I buy them to show support for the show (which always seems on the verge of cancellation). I use the free downloads to sample new stuff, but I support the shows I like by buying DVDs and the bands I like by buying CDs (or downloads), tickets, merchandise.
