anyone good at organic chemistry?
From among the constitutional isomers of C6H12, give the IUPAC name for:
a) a derivative of cyclopentane.
b) a derivative of cyclobutane containing only one branch. 9/14/2006 9:21:56 PM |

I'm doing that same homework...
I'm struggling too.
Especially with naming the compounds. I don't know whether I'm using the correct notation.
For #2 b. (b/c I already screwed up a.) how would you write the IUPAC name? especially in webassign. I thought it was 4-Ethly-5,5-dimethyl-3-methylnonane

I thought I was following all the rules correctly. I have to be using the wrong notation.
for #2. C. i thought it was 4-ethyl-5-methylhexane but its wrong.
did she say something about not being able to use - in webassign? 9/14/2006 10:14:30 PM |

4-ethyl-3,5,5-trimethylnonane (you have to put ethyl before methyl because e comes before m in the alphabet) 9/14/2006 11:12:16 PM |
