So, I feel like I'm about to get sick - I have that scratchy/stinging feeling at the top of my throat and a stuffy nose and I really don't want to be sick right now. I read that when you are starting to feel sick, you can take this stuff called Airborne they sell at drugstores and such in order to prevent it from getting worse. What else can I do besides drinking lots of orange juice? Excedrine for Migraine Relief used to be a miracle drug on me and would help pretty much anything (like a sore throat, not just migraines). Is it worth paying the $5-7 for the Airborne? Should I maybe get something from Whole Foods? 9/15/2006 9:40:13 AM |

i got sick anyways, and wasted an extra 6 or 8 bucks on that airborne crap. its totally a placebo and only works on you if youre susceptible to trends 9/15/2006 9:55:03 AM |

why is everyone getting sick lately? I know like 8 people who have gotten sick in the past week or two. I'm glad my immune system is a beast.

Vitamin C, water, sleep, and zinc actually (dont overdose on that one i think it's one of the ones you can, but it does help your immune system too - a multivitamin with a decent % of your daily dose will suffice here) and echinacea. 9/15/2006 11:00:52 AM |

Start jogging. Once I got rid of a cold in the early stages by jogging to get my body temperature up. It worked... once.
Thinking of the Three Stooges also gets rid of hiccups. You know you have it bad when you have to start dipping into Curly Joe territory. 9/15/2006 11:14:45 AM |

strep throat seems to be going around campus right now. Tried the Airborne once... that stuff is NASTY!! I still ended up sick. You are just as well off taking some multi-vitamin, cuz that's basically what it is. 9/15/2006 2:34:36 PM |

I swear by this stuff. You can get it at Whole Foods. Airborne doesn't do shit, but I refer to this stuff as "mirable elixir".

Airborne is pretty useless for preventing a cold, but if you want instant OJ at any time it might be all right. 9/16/2006 11:46:28 PM |

What the fuck does a weak/strong immune system have to do with the effectiveness of some magic sugar tablet? Placebo effect FTW. 9/17/2006 3:10:21 AM |

Airborne is useless. Just go get some vitamin C pills from the GNC and it'll do you better. Airborne actually has high concentrations of other nutrients that can do damage to organs in your body if you are not careful (ie: taking it too often for too long).
Just load up on C (about 2000mg), drink some nyquil, drink some juice, take a long nap, and you'll be a bit better.

At this time of year, it may not be a cold that's making you feel bad, but ragweed season peaks in the middle of September. I always got sick around this time of year until the doctor's realized that my sinus infections were really the result of a ragweed allergy. I take Claritin-D and Nasonex for my allergies.
Always take a properly balanced multi-vitamin. And to boost your immune system make sure that you take a vitamin C supplement WITH a vitamin E supplement. These two should always be taken together because vitamin C needs vitamin E to work effectively(most people forget about this).
