how should one study for his exams? would the online notes suffice or does he expect you to have everything memorized?

Let's see...I had his class a couple of semesters ago, and I remember it was tough. The notes were good enough to study, he had a lot of MC, and the Short Answers always tripped me up. The notes should be good enough...just study hard!

does he curve the tests?

On the first test, majority will do bad. He will give a curve.

One thing about Dr. Grant and even Dr. Heatwole, as I had the former and I got an A, you have to study as if it were a 400 level science course. Memorize basically everything regarding the phyla, characteristics, species, etc. Grant's lectures follow the reading, especially the Campbell book (the other book is needed as well).
