Helmet, jacket, gloves.

Any advice, Im just starting out so i want something protective (leather with inserts).

What are some good quality brands...

Brands I like:
Firstgear (My daily riding jacket)
Joe Rocket (I just like their stuff)
Frank Thomas (My 1 piece leather racing suit)
Alpinestars (My boots)
Dainese (My gauntlets and back protector)

The only brand I've really heard bad things about is Icon...a lot of people like their stuff, others think it's just for show. It's really just opinion until you wreck yourself and see how well your gear holds up, lol.

For just starting out, Joe Rocket or Firstgear would be your best bet. Talk to someone at Cyclegear and they'll hook you up. That's where I got most of my gear.

my icon gauntlet gloves held up well.

my frank thomas jacket has been throuhg 3-4 wrecks and is really torn up be holding up well just need to resew some shit

i've had great luck with first gear products, and they are affordable, i just ordered some overpants form them for my trip this weekend to the mountains

I've got one too and am happy with it (although it's just sitting in the closet now.) I don't remember who was talking bad about it, but I think someone wrecked with it on and didn't get much protection.
