If you missed it, I think they'll be putting it up on http://www.cbs.com/innertube/ later on...like tomorrow or something.
I was surprised, it lived up to my expectations. It was pretty good, and I think I'll keep watchin it. Looks like it might be a Lost-ish kinda show. 9/20/2006 9:26:24 PM |

i disagree
this show is LOST without the fantastical mystery
the difference is that LOST would suck without mystery
this show can stand alone without any tricks or gimmicks

THANK YOU! Thats what I was screaming when they showed it. Fucking stupid!
However the rest of the show seems interesting and I like the concept. Anyone notice that the mayor was George Hearst on "Deadwood" and the guy he's running against in the election was on "Prison Break" last season9/22/2006 1:35:45 PM |

And he had a LOT more red pins.
So obviously he knew this was gonna happen. His cover story is, he left St. Louis. Questions. Is he a terrorist, or involved in this? If so, why the hell did he and his family stay in the states and not leave altogether. If he is gov't, why would he know this was gonna happen and they not do anything to stop it. Why did he not reveal the info about the cities? Just to keep people from panicking or what? 9/27/2006 9:07:50 PM |

Lesson: stock up on duct tape and plastic sheeting.
Guy has a map of the US, a full container of red pushpins, and seems awfully knowledgable in everything they've needed to know so far. Obviously knew almost exactly what was coming.
He also moved with his family, seems pretty normal, and seems to be helping the local folks (though he's not very forthcoming). Doesn't really scream terrorist to me, unless he's part of some crafty plot by Americans to destroy, invade, and capture America.
What keeps coming to my mind is that Twilight Zone episode where the small town mysteriously loses power and can't communicate with the outside world, so they quickly turn on one another. 9/27/2006 9:19:33 PM |

ummm, no, he heard the morse code on the radio and was writing it down, it seemed pretty clear to me that what he heard on the radio was the names of the cities and he was marking them with pins from what he had written down

Anyone listen to or have a sound clip of the morse code message the guy received, BTW? I wasn't paying close attention to it.
It's not that he specifically knew the names of the cities; it's that he had some forewarning of what was coming. Which is why he mysteriously moves his entire family to a small town far from any major targets, buys a nice clean map of the US and all those red pushpins, and just happens to be familiar with disaster preparedness, the effects of nuclear weapons, etc.

8 cities? Hell, if that is all we lost then the next era is not going to be that bad. Over the past 50 years the factories have largely been moved away from the cities and the farms were already there, so all the requisite productive capacity is still in place. All nuking 8 cities did was kill a lot of people and mess up organization. So, a country with enough farms and factories to feed and clothe 300 million people now only needs to support 220 million, big whoops. After 6 months of chaos everything will be back to normal.
Hell, I would even suspect the price of food-stuff to fall. Yes, with the organization and transportation problems processed food will become scarce for awhile, but I'm sure people can figure out how to make bread the old fashioned way for awhile, especially since we all still have our working bread-makers.
Hell again, thanks to the existence of by-passes we may not even need to rebuild the roads destroyed in the blasts, just drive around. Hopefully no major rail trunks were taken out.
The power grid should have stayed up for most of the country, except for a few tripped breakers, but restoring it to the areas that depended upon the named cities for power would require running new lines, possibly taking months.
After that, telecommunications should be more difficult, but simple re-routing should work for most of the system. Telecommunications is key, without it the nation's providers cannot figure out the situation sufficiently to get back to work producing and selling necessities.
Next, repairing the nation's pipeline network is of utmost importance to keep the transportation system running as we have insufficient rolling capacity to transport all the fuel that is available.
After all this work, most of the nation should be back to a resemblance of normal within a week or two, some areas may take a few months. This is not to say it will not be hard; it will. People will panic, law enforcement will be strained, especially in areas occupied by refugees. Living standards will fall substantially, but plenty of food and fuel will be readily available.
I do not suspect it will even be necessary to abandon the dollar as a holder of value, although the price system will need to adjust, perhaps abruptly.
Of course, it does all kinda depend on how the government responds to the situation. If it is on a war footing then it will probably institute price controls, rationing, and resource confiscation, with the ultimate result of creating shortages, rampant illegality, and eventually a breakdown of the social fabric. Here's hope
