ok so this thing has been occasionally happening to my car
(2000 ford exploder XLT)
once like 2 years ago and then never happened till like 2 weeks ago and then again today
sometimes if my car has been sitting for a while and i get in it
it wont catch
it will crank forever but it wont catch at all (catch as in actually crank up and run)
it will catch if i step on the gas a little bit but if i let off the gas it will immediately die
it wont idle at all
the way i fixed it was i would step on the gas and very quickly slip it into reverse and try to keep moving if i do that a few times (step on gas slip it into reverse or drive if i can get it) it will eventually work normal again but its bad on my tranny to put that kind of load on it and im worried one day it wont fix and it will just be incapable of idling or cranking up without the gas. which would mean i would have to get it towed and pay lots of $texas
so whats wrong with my car?
any suggestions for repair?

Yeah. It's an Explorer Exploder

Actually, you might consider having the idle air solenoid checked out.

On the side of the throttle body. You can try unbolting it (2 bolts) and cleaning out the valve portion with carburetor cleaner. It might be stuck closed.

Is your check engine light on or anything?

Could be also a fuel pump fixing to shit the bed (losing its prime)

what i did, take a hammer, crawl under your your ford and bang the fuel tank a couple of times, you may need to replace the pump which is what I had to do with mine, sucks cuz you have to drop the whole tank down and then pull it out, if you have to do that then suggestion is that you run all the gas out of the tank, it's easier then.

is it a 4.0? if so, put an iac in it and problem solved. take off the 4 bolts in the plastic engine cover, you'll see it right on top of the intake, unplug it, unbolt it and swap it out, couldnt be easier

it is a 4.0!
i was thinking it was the IAC because i heard those are problematic on the explorers near the 2000 year model. isnt it like $40 at any car parts store?
if so then i would definately do it and see if it fixes it and if not then i know its the fuel pump.

its definately the iac, i'd bet my left nut on it, if i had $.05 for every time i changed one, well i'd have a little less than a dollar
