My really disgusting roomate put her banana's ontop of the fridge and forgot about them til now (It's been like 3 weeks). She also leaves food and dirty dishes all over the place. Needless to say I have now been bombarded by fruit flies for the last week. (But I'm kicking her out next week, haha!)
I'm a neat freak and this is really grossing me out.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of the nasty suckers? 9/23/2006 12:35:33 AM |

They only live 2 weeks. Remove their source of food and they'll go away on their own. 9/23/2006 2:13:46 AM |

I found putting out a dish of mouthwash would attract them and then they'd drown in it. 9/23/2006 11:40:27 AM |

I have them too. Also caused by Banana peels (or possibly orange peels or apple cores). I probably should just get a trash can with a lid on it or a separate compost bucket to keep outside or something. I am a very neat person as well, but I can't justify taking out the garbage when it's only 1/4 full. I don't generate a lot of trash, so my food trash stays with me longer than perhaps would be normal. 9/23/2006 4:33:25 PM |

clean up and spray massive amount of bug spray where the fruit flies are hanging out and they will be sure to go away 9/24/2006 2:53:12 AM |

Clean up and get some Raid that's in the blue canister, that says flying insects killer or something to that effect. Takes em right out. 9/24/2006 3:39:37 AM |

Works like a charm. No pesticides, and caught every single fruit fly in my house within 12 hours. Problem is no more.

If you have a container, a piece of paper, and some rotten food (which you obviously do if you have said problem), why would you even consider buying something? That homemade trap was 100% effective. 10/1/2006 8:27:21 PM |
