We have service with Time Warner, and are using their cable modem/router as our wifi base. I've had several problems with this setup, and need to know how much of a pain it is to set up our our network. What involved (equipment, costs), and how do I set it up?

As far as I know, TWC doesn't have a router... might be wrong. So, you need to go buy a wireless router. Costs can range because of strength of signal. The network really isn't hard to set up at all... Plug ethernet cable in and set up encryption codes(optional, but recomended). But I'm not gonna go into it in fear that I might be barking up the wrong tree.

That's it? Coax to linksys (setting up encryption)? I'm assuming that I can run a hard wire to my desktop from the linksys. God damn I'm a tard.

Coax to Linksys, use the router manual directions to go into the online setup and change the default settings, activate the encryption, etc., and you're good to go. The WRT54g has four ports for hardwire connection in addition to the wireless.

Good god.

Coax line goes into TWC cable modem- which should be just a modem, if it's not and you're paying them for networking, call up, cancel the networking, get a plain modem. Buy a Linksys WRTG54 - I own one, hell pay me $10 and i'll come set it up for you *and* teach you. (assuming you live in raleigh). Plug the input port of the router via a normal ethernet cable to the modem. Set up the router- it's point and click and doesnt require a lot of anything. Plug any hardline computers into the router, bring your wireless boxes up- input any settings needed (depending on what setup for the router you had- like encryption pa asswords), PROFIT.

Oh, there's instructions in the box (WRTG54) for most of this.
