"BATON ROUGE, La. -- Burglars hit North Carolina Central University's locker room during the football team's game against Southern University.

"They just beat a very good football team. They should be excited, instead they are disappointed."
-- North Carolina Central SID Kyle Serba

Sneakers, money, football rings and electronics were taken from the facility, located about a fourth of a mile from A.W. Mumford Stadium, said Kyle Serba, sports information director for North Carolina Central.

The thefts occurred at some point during the game, which started at 6 p.m. and ended about 9 p.m.

"We were told by Southern University that the locker room was going to be secure," Serba said. "I don't see how this could have happened."

Southern Chancellor Edward Jackson said the university's police officers will work until they "get it resolved." No suspects were reported.

Jackson added that the locker room burglary should not reflect poorly on the university's efforts to increase security in and directly surrounding Mumford Stadium.

Southern University officials decided more than a week ago to increase security at its home football games in light of a shooting across the street from the stadium that left a 59-year-old Port Allen man dead. The shooting happened off-campus at a credit union during Southern's first home football game.

Everyone who walks into the stadium must pass through metal detectors while their bags and purses are searched. The new measures also eliminate tailgating in the stadium's south end zone.

North Carolina Central beat Southern 27-20.

"They just beat a very good football team," Serba said. "They should be excited, instead they are disappointed." "

durham ain't so bad. granted I live in the safest part (next to coach K), but I work downtown near campus and it's ok--it gets a bad rap when everywhere else is the same.

Durham has a bad rep for a reason, try venturing out a little more ie cheek/east geer/midland terrace area.

Cheek Rd isn't terrible. The area where they threw in the few poor suburban apartments are bad, but it is a VERY long road. Redneck country isn't very terrible. Well, except for those areas where they are throwing up (and I purposefully use that term) tons of middle income housing that gets filled by more city types of ppl that don't know how to respect the area that they live in, but that is a different situation completely.

Roxboro Rd where the Wal-Mart is falls under the term SKETCH.

I was refering to cheek road around where I worked (us70 area), didn't realize it went so far NE. Also the worst neighborhood I've ever seen was somewhere back behind the lowes (a mile or two) on roxboro. Not many places you have to drive around lawn chairs in the middle of the road with guys playing dice with 40's in their hands.

I was wondering how people amassed thousands of posts on here. Now I realize its mostly by posting stupid ass, sarcastic replies. Go hang out there a while and then make some smart ass comments.
