Bob Seger - "Live" Bullet
Allman Brothers - Eat a Peach
Johnny Cash - At San Quentin
Allman Brothers - At Filmore East
Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison
Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive

haven't heard The Who's Live at Leeds yet but i'm sure its good.

what i've seen and heard from "The Last Waltz" is incredible as well.

what are some of your favorite albums or live version songs?

I've heard a live version of Tom Petty's "Breakdown" on 106.1 many times that is fucking great but i can't find a full album that has it.

The Last Waltz is far and away the greatest concert ever recorded. Stop Making Sense (actually two shows in one movie) is a close second. That said,

Lou Reed - Rock N Roll Animal
Neil Young - Live Rust
Joe Cocker - Mad Dogs and Englishmen
Phish - MSG New Year's Eve 1995, Live Phish 5, 8, and 16

and i second the fillmore allman stuff mentioned above

U2 - Under A Blood Red Sky (Rattle & Hum is good also)

imo the band Live is ok, but they lick balls in comparison with some of the great live music compilations listed above.

anyone have any feedback on grateful dead live albums?

or preference to dead albums in general.

i love the allman brothers' jam band type songs and so i'm assuming i'd like the less mainstream jam band grateful dead.

I bought this album when I was, like, 14...I wanted some Allman Bros., and it was, like, the only
thing in stock at whatever bullshit store I went to.

Ever since then, I've been busting it out like I just got it so I could get people interested or
impressed (I'm tryna be cool, folks...LOL).

Greatest live album ever (in my youthful opinion)...every time I listen to it, I can't believe I
just fucking stumbled on it as a n00b.

Seriously, folks, own it.

I'll be really depressed when I don't enjoy it like I did as a kid.

My favorite Dead studio album is "Grateful Dead from the Mars Hotel." Someone you know likely has "Skeletons from the Closet," the popular greatest hit album.

I don't have a huge Dead collection, but I really like the Europe '72 Live Album. It's got some of their most popular songs... Tennesse Jed, Jack Straw, China Cat Sunflower, He's Gone, Brown-Eyed Woman. I just asked my buddy who's a huge deadhead where to start and he IMed me - " '69 and '77," so I guess my other advice is to start in those years. Find out what your favorite songs are then just pick up stuff with that. And learn to love bittorrent. etree probably has good stuff for free and for legal.

Know that they rarely, if ever, rock the way the Allman brothers rock... two dummers and wailing slide guitar, etc... but, there's so much Dead material (30+ years!) that there's definitely something for everybody
