Guy usually has some good inside info, remember he called Wannstedt and Groh coming back to coach college way before anyone else so who knows....

Quote :
"Here is why North Carolina and N.C. State will be looking for new coaches at the end of this season: Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe has lost his starting quarterback and running back to injuries, and the Deacons are unbeaten. UNC and N.C. State have more talent than Wake and are 3-5 combined. Both Carolina jobs are plum positions that will attract big names. Don't be surprised if one of those names is a Bowden--Terry, that is. . . . "

I would shit in my pants if State got Terry, he can recruit at least on par with Chuck and is a LOT better X's and O's guy.

and here is a little jab at Schaffer...

by plum I think he means decently high pay, nice place to live, and relatively low expectations (low compared to places like Texas, Ohio State, etc)

Well, I guess what I meant was that Bowden was such a weird name to pull out, no one had mentioned him before (as far as I know), so I am thinking he might know for certain that Bowden is interested in one of them.

^^

Well... Maybe Terry has his eyes set on FSU after daddy leaves.. IF that is the case he would need to get back in the groove of things and coach somewhere a few years so daddy can justify picking him, instead of just plucking him from the TV set...

"Bunting failing Tar Heels

Caulton Tudor, Staff Writer
There are any number of reasons why North Carolina athletics director Dick Baddour doesn't want to dismiss football head coach John Bunting at season's end.

But unless something changes fast, Baddour owes it to his school to change coaches.

All of the reasons for keeping Bunting are valid:

* Bunting is a personable, loyal former Carolina standout who would probably swap years off his life to return the program to its success of the Mack Brown era.

* The school has a big financial investment in Bunting and his staff. Changing coaches at the end of the season would cost Carolina more than a million dollars in contract settlements. Bunting is signed through the 2009 season. Coordinators Marvin Sanders and Frank Cignetti are under contract through the 2008 season. At least three other aides are signed through the '07 season.

* Baddour has a personal stake in Bunting's fate. Baddour made the hire, just as he did when Carl Torbush was promoted to follow Brown after the 1997 team finished regular season with a 10-1 record.

Since Torbush got the job, Carolina's football teams have gone 42-57 overall and 26-40 in ACC games.

Baddour hasn't coached a game or signed a recruit, but he shares responsibility for this steady slide. Of more importance, Baddour has primary responsibility for where the program is heading. That's why he may have no other choice except to take the action he wants to avoid.

But it's not Bunting's program. It's not Baddour's program, nor chancellor James Moeser's.

It's the Carolina football program's, and if winning games is a primary objective, everyone involved has an obligation to make an honest, if painful, evaluation about Bunting.

In Bunting's sixth season, job performance should no longer hinge on potential and commitment. The central issues now have to be production and direction. And as much as everyone admires Bunting and wishes him well, the production isn't there and the direction is questionable at best.

Despite all of the optimistic rhetoric and promises of great strides just ahead, very little about Carolina's program looks healthy. The 52-7 loss at Clemson was no accident. It was the result of a team and a program near collapse. Something is dreadfully wrong when a sixth-year coach's team can't compete for more than a series or two.

And it's not as though there were great expectations for Bunting in '06.

With a new quarterback for the second straight season and a thin offensive line, a competitive 6-6 finish would have been enough for Bunting and Baddour to make reasonable arguments that title contenders were on the way for 2007 and '08. Logically, no one could buy such assertions today.

There's still time for the Tar Heels to reach those goals, and Bunting deserves the opportunity to make what he can of eight remaining games. But nothing so far suggests that rapid improvement is in sight.

The defense, which had its moments last season, clearly is in retreat. The offense, in its first season under a new coordinator, has little grasp of fundamental execution. There's no sign of confidence in either unit. The performance at Clemson smacked of an ill-prepared team that essentially quit in the first quarter.

It's not easy for any of us to admit we made a mistake in judgment. That's even harder to do when good people -- Baddour and Bunting -- with good intentions are involved.

But Bunting is failing. There's no other way to describe it. What's more, there's nothing about his body of coaching work to indicate that one or two more years on the job will be better than the first six.

Right, and in this day of internet reporting and fleeting journalistic integrity and credibility, guys wouldn't make some stuff up just to sell some "papers".
