Hey ya'll. I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee (sport?). Its got stock...everything. I've added some tint to the windows already. I've noticed that there are about 6 of them in this town alone that look exactly like mine. A friend of mine suggested blacking out the wheels. What do you guys think I should do to it to make it stand out? Oh, and I'm not doing the lift kit thing. I don't want it to look like a redneck truck. No problem with rednecks...its just not me. So here's what it looks like now:

And before any of you hecklers come in and try to rain on my parade...YES I live in a trailer park. But how many of YOU can say you own two cars free and clear and are buying a house...allbeit a trailer?

A TRAILER DEPRECIATES

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A HOUSE THAT WILL APPRECIATE

FORGET THE LOOKS OF YOUR OLD JEEP AND SAVE MONEY TOWARDS A HOUSE.

uh, me? is this something uncommon? do i have permission to rain on your parade now?

oh, and a trailer is a stupid investment. not something to be bragging about unless you've got some decent land you're putting it on, but you just said you live in a park which means renting.

seriously

when the "car guys" are telling you that what you want to do is a stupid, irresponsible waste of money, you should take us at our word

oh hell, you have a kid, too?

how much are you putting away each month for college?

how much do you have saved and accumulating monthly for a down payment on a mortgage?

do you have an IRA? are you maxing it out?

what about other investments?

do you have permanent life insurance or just term? hell, do you even HAVE ENOUGH life insurance, given that you have a kid now?

i will be the first to admit that i've blown a metric shit ton of money on car/motorcycle stuff over the years, but it's with the money that's left over after all of that other stuff is taken care of.

its not the fact that its a trailer that is "so spectacular". Its the fact that I am paying for it with money I am earning on my own. I know a trailer isn't a wise investment, but its a roof over my family's heads for now. Its not some cardboard cookie cutter small ass apartment where chico lives below you playing his trumpet blaring mexican music at 4 am, jethro across the hall playing hillbilly rock, and marcus upstairs blaring the latest whacked out bass overloaded crap. Granted, its not Wisteria Lane, but the people here will do anything for you they can.

Yes, I have a kid. And if you for one minute think you're gonna make me feel bad about having her you're wrong. She is my everything. Yes I DO have an IRA and I AM saving monthly for her college fund. JUST because I live in a TRAILER PARK doesn't mean I have no brains. I know how to take care of mine and keep myself from swimming in debt in the process. I don't have to have a four bedroom ranch in the nice neighborhood to feel good about the life i am living. I know I am doing the best with what I've got, so take your shit storm somewhere else.

i mean if you want to live in a nice neighborhood get a town house. they aren't very expensive and pedro and jamal don't live above and below you, or whatever names you pulled out of your ass.

The bigger the cushion
The sweeter the pushin'
That's what I said

The looser the waistband
The deeper the quicksand
Or so I have read

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I like to sink her with my pink torpedo

Big bottom
Big bottom
Talk about bum cakes
My girl's got 'em
Big bottom, drive me out of my mind
How can I leave this behind?

I saw her on Monday
'Twas my lucky bun day
You know what I mean

I love her each weekday
Each velvety cheekday
You know what I mean

My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights
Big game is waiting there inside her tights

Big bottom
Big bottom
Talk about mudflaps
My gal's got 'em

Big bottom, drive me out of my mind
How can I leave this behind?

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I like to sink her with my pink torpedo

Big bottom

Jesus I don't make SHIT, am going back to school part time, my wife works part time as a fucking cashier at a restaurant, and even then I own two cars "Free and in the clear", am paying off my 3rd car (Camaro), AND have a fucking house that I own (at least a couple bricks on perhaps). And yes I got one son and another child on the way.

The trailer debate really depends a lot on the age of the trailer. A 20 year old trailer is worth about $1500 which really isn't shit if it makes or breaks your ability to own a home. You can always haul it off and have a house built (or a modular home put in) later.

I wouldn't even consider dumping $50-$60k on a new trailer though. They are much better built today than they were 20-30 years ago (shingled roofs, thicker walls, nicer fixtures, etc,) but it's still not going to be worth jack by the time you get it paid off. For a little more you could get a modular home that will last longer and appreciate in value.

Yeah, after a little research I was impressed with the new modulars. It's a pretty solid way to build. I'd highly consider them if I had a piece of land.

I've been in some older modulars that were junk though. They were built just like a trailer on the inside with the paper thin walls, cheap everything, etc.

true, they've come a long way in structural quality from the looks of it. the rest of the package is still very questionable to me though. you've also got to ask yourself WHY they're using 2x6's. it's sure as hell not because they just want to give the customer a super quality over built house in a cut cost market...

honestly, i'm not that knowledgeable on what's happened in that market in the past few years. my family looked into them extensively a few years back as a replacement for the run down ancient homestead on some property we have in nash county. we should start a new topic. i might change my opinion.

2x6's were part of the reason I liked them. They have to be built sturdy to handle being on the road, but once it's there and settled it seems like it would be very structurally sound.

I also like that they are built in a factory. All the materials are put together in an environment that is roughly the same humidity and temperature and they're installed by someone who does the same task every day. Cuts out a lot of the mistakes that occur when you get some non-english speaking chico trying to follow a blueprint.

seriously though, once i get comfortable in my current mortgage i plan to buy some acerage in western nc or the extreme northern obx. an investment property (rental house) is a consideration also, but i don't dig the required 10% down.
