me and another guy at ECU are building a go cart from teh ground up and are looking a free/cheappppp motor that can go on it, preferably something 15+hp or so...we just wanna have it for drunk nights back home basically...willing to take it off your hands and even let u help with the buildup...we have the frame and all just need the motor to mount it and build around it...any help is appreciated.
also if anyone has any go cart frames they wanna part with lemme know as well, wouldnt mind having 2 of these to race.

15hp on a somewhat typical go kart frame=/ to safe driving period, much less drunk rides home from even the closest places. trust me, been there tested that a few years ago... and that was with just a 5hp (with a few mods) on a modified riding mower chassis.

it'd be more fun to have a shifter cart, i would think an engine off a bike would be better in that respect. also the powerband would make it a lil more fun to drive. i do have one angry briggs mortor but im keepin it cause it sure can shop up some serious brush.

^^hey foo want to grab a beer later on tonight? i's be done with my shit by 9 or so

I used to race WKA karts on dirt oval, we used modified 5hp briggs and strattons. I ran a restrictor plate class for a few years and was goin 45mph. The stock unrestricteds were doin 60-65mph and were only pushing about 6.5hp, so you might wanna go small. Just get a 5hp B&S from an old garden tiller, clean the carb, put in a new diaphragm and ride.

751 in durham might have a couple complete engines, but they prolly rape you in the ass on the price.

craigslist would be your best bet, i see older motorcycle engines on there all the time

[Edited on October 23, 2006 at 6:12 PM. Reason : actrually i think i seen a complete chassis for sale the other day too for $600]

ok I decided to go with a 5.5 HP briggs, got two of em actually so I think we are indeed gonna make 2 carts

any ideas on how to tweak them to get them running alot faster?

also any ideas on suspension/steering, I

really want to make it look mean, more than your normal square frame cart
I like some of the ones http://www.edge.au.com/customerbuggies.htm there, but alot of them have huge motors in them

any ideas though?? all help is appreciated.

alum might be alittle more difficult but the weight difference would be tremendous, i would use steel as thats easy to weld and easy to find maybe...anyone know of any spare they wanna get rid of??

but alum would be my first choice
