is gayer than a pink fanny-pack full of dicks.

I hate it.

You can turn it "off", but it basically just feels "less draconian" rather than "off" or "not intrusive" on that setting.

even on the "off" setting, it doesn't allow for anywhere near enough wheelspin or chassis rotation, and worst of all, when it retards the power to reign things in, there is lag in reintroducing the power...so if you get too sporty for the DSC's tastes, it puts the car in limp-wrist mode for what must be a full couple of seconds after you ease up on the throttle, thereby making you slower than if you'd never gotten aggressive with it at all.

it really punishes you for trying to accelerate hard out of a corner...i think i might have to try experimenting with going in really hot and trail braking it.

i'm cool with it on a moderate to fast sweeper, but in a tight corner, it infuriates me.

is it just me? am I too hamfisted (i think i got myself into the outlaw sprint car method of going fast when I had that turbo miata)? is there a way to fully (or at least further) disable it? does it really suck as much as I think it does?

ahhhhh...

that's a good piece of info. i'll have to try it out.

honestly, i don't see any need for anything more conservative than the "relaxed" setting. even on the relaxed setting, you'd have to fuck up so severely to get into trouble that no amount of DSC would've saved your dumb ass.

^thats what I was gonna say. You need to hold the button down a lot longer Duke.

When I autoxed brand new Z4s a few years back I definitely got the DSC entirely disabled, hehehe.

^^^ setting on a corvette is similiar to that, so def try that. although with the corvette it's kind of backwards from that..press once to disable traction control and active handling but press/hold to just disable traction control which they call "competitive mode"

Will the light change in any way to tell you the DSC is fully disabled?

yeah, the DSC light comes on when you go to "relaxed" mode, and the emergency brake lights up in amber (vice red) when you disable DSC and traction control completely.

and yeah, i haven't had a chance to really hammer on it yet, but i kicked the tail out once...holding the button seems to be just the ticket.

Typical BMW owner, doesn't read the fucking manual and gets online to bitch about how shitty the car is. On top of that........are you talking about the E46 in your gallery? Good luck putting down the "hammer" with that monster 200hp beast.

Ah, another typical BMW owner........one whos fellow owner and friend gets told how stupid they are, so they join in on the topic. What was it, the typical BMW owner comment? All of you stupid fucks are just alike. And you Scotty think your car is the shit, because all of these faggets on TWW swing from your nuts. And I don't think we have met before, but you can call me that in person and I will personally make your fluffy headed fagget ass a hood ornament on your shitbox BMW.

BTW, I sold the POS 5.0 2 years ago. I would have wiped you clean off the road with that POS car too, but if I remember right you didn't want to race me?

Oh yeah.........I work on them, and I don't own one because I don't want to fit into the stereotype of all you fagget, collar popping, mommy and daddy car buying queers. I am sure dookie866 probably bought his own car, but the majority of you were handed your cars.

Threads like this make you stupid fucks shine.

Once you have driven (I was the passenger though) 120 kilometers down a fully snow/ice covered Autobahn, then another 30 kilometers on 2 lane roads, at speeds ranging from 35-65 mph, in an M roadster (with snow tires), you begin to appreciate why the traction control is there.

It isn't to save your ass when you try to shred a turn in sunny Florida, it's when you try to pull out of the snow plowed "lane" into the car plowed "lane" to pass some Citroen and you would rather not go spinning out of control trying to do it.

dude, i work like 60-80 hours per week, and I just had a my first baby (with an ex-gf) a week ago. I have not had time to devote to figuring out how the DSC in my car is rigged up.

and i think it's like 225 or 235 hp or something. no, it's not fast--i bought it because i wasn't getting any use out of having a fast car, and decided to get something a little more practical and "family" oriented.

Thanksgiving. If you want or need an ass-whoopin', I'm now taking reservations.

haha, true. i'm not generally a fan of a lot of the gadgetry on cars. i hate that stupid passenger-side mirror auto-tilt when you put it in reverse (thankfully figured out how to disable that). stability control is ok sometimes, but kinda gay more often than now. i don't like it when cars their doors at any other time than when I tell them too. I don't like it when the stereo turns up the volume on its own when I speed up. I don't like automatic transmissions. I'd never pay for airbags if they weren't federally mandated.

I like stupid cars.

nope, it's mine. S2000 is gone.

nah dude, it's bad. if you break traction, it kills your power BIG TIME, and it takes a couple of seconds to come back. you can never flirt with the limits of adhesion if the DSC is on--you'll only end up slowing yourself down.

No, i knew exactly what I was getting when I bought it. My dad has prob owned about a half dozen BMWs (he trades cars more than I do, I think), including a 330i, optioned exactly like mine (except for auto trans, and sedan of course). I knew it wasn't going to be a hot rod, and that's fine. It has enough performance to keep me entertained for a little while. I wasn't getting to really use the performance of my old car, and decided that, for the time being, i'd rather have a trunk, a backseat, and a quiet, smooth ride.

but that DSC fucking sucks.

^^you know the cooley hat type switch that you adjust your mirror tilt with? you know the selector switch beside it that you choose which mirror to adjust with? you put that selector switch towards the passenger side (or maybe it's driver side, but i think it's passenger) and it disables the auto-tilt thing.

^it's good for parallel parking, backing into a spot tight against a curb, etc...but it sucks for just generally backing up.

I have never been successful at fully shutting off DSTC on my Volvo S60R. I gave up after awhile -- here is the procedure (completely rediculous)

http://autoweb.drive.com.au/cms/A_100330/newsarticle.html
Quote :
"
Switching off DSTC
When the road is right, sometimes the driver wants full control, and the S60 R and V70 R give the driver that option. DSTC can be disabled either partially or fully.

With DSTC partially disabled, the stability system remains active but will allow more oversteer - up to approximately 10 degrees - before politely assisting the driver without intruding.

With DSTC fully disabled, the safety system is shut down. The car will not correct itself from a slide. In this DSTC setting, the driver is in control and any mistakes will not be corrected by DSTC.

To fully disable DSTC, the car must be stationary and the DSTC button must be pressed five times in succession within a certain time and frequency. It may require several attempts before DSTC is fully disabled. The system is purposefully designed not to be disabled by mistake.
"

And then if you disable DSTC successfully, it will come back on next time you start the car.

Hahahah

Anyways, I'm somewhat with Duke on this one. I like simple cars...one thing I like about my S2000 is that even though it's a pretty advanced car (for MY2000 anyways) it has a very simple interior, no traction control, no autolocking doors, etc.

I might be replacing my Civic as a DD with something truck-ish or Jeep-ish, and if I do I'll probably try to find something without power locks, power windows, etc. Less shit to deal with, less shit to break, and cheaper.

any of you BMWphiles know much about the rear subframe mount failure issue?

how concerned should i be? what are my options in terms of reinforcing it to prevent it from happening? the only fix i know of is from Turner Motorsports, and it is apparently a real asspain of an install.
