yes, they make alot more than NBA players...and alot of it is guaranteed unlike the NBA and NFL, so even if you are cut you still get $$$$$

Are you retarded? As the #1 overall pick (which most people agree he is) he would get about a $6 million signing bonus... thats more than he could make with a rookie contract in the NBA (and he wouldn't be drafted anyways)

It's true that there is a higher likelyhood of failing before getting the majors in baseball but kids drafted from college that high are usually major league ready and take no longer then 2 years to be up in the show... some even play the year they were drafted (Zimmerman, Hansen, and Devine last year; Miller this year).

Plus maybe Brackman likes baseball better. If I had a choice b/t playing in the NBA and pro baseball, I'd take baseball in a heartbeat even though I played both in HS..

Once again, Hamilton was a HS pick, not a guy with 3 years of college experience. Brackman is farther along in the development stage, both physically and mentally/emotionally. That's why the ML draft is going away from high school kids as all the top picks and is becoming more and more college dominated at the top.

Here ill layout what he's looking at financially.


~top 5 pick in baseball. He's looking at fat guaranteed signing bonus worth a couple milion. Then his contract will be peanuts while he's in the minor leagues. If he makes the majors he'll play for a couple hundred thousand a year... If he can stick in the majors for a few years he'll break into the mid-millions... then if he can stick as a solid SP he'll be making $10+ million a year. Basically he's getting $$$ up front and then the rest depends on his health/development.

basketball IF he was a late 1st round pick (which at this point doenst look likely) he'd get a guaranteed three year deal worth ~$1 million a year with a team option for the 4th year. After that he'd be a free agent and could make anywhere from $1 to ~$15 million a year.... Basically he'd get pretty good money spread over three years and the rest he'd have to earn a roster spot (pretty difficult to do) to stay in the league.

If he was a 2nd round pick he'd get a contract that was NOT guaranteed for ~$300,000. He could be cut in training camp, halfway through the season, or stay on the team the whole year. Most 2nd rd picks get a team option for the 2nd year i think so he'd make similar money the next season then would be eligible for $1-$15 million depending on his health/development.


Basically, unless he can get a guarantee that he'd be a 1st round pick in basketball he'd be a complete idiot not to pursue baseball.


Also think of it from his perspective. Baseball and Basketball are LONG grinding seasons. A lot of time on the road... would he rather be pitching once every five days and hanging out on a 25 man team with guys like Tim Hudson.... or riding the bench every night and getting the pleasure of having guys like Ricky Davis and Stephon Marbury completely ignore him...

nothing is for certain with either scenario, but he has a great shot at becoming a very good pitcher

Well put. If I'm in Brack's shoes, I'm sticking with baseball and if it doesn't work out, then he can always try and play pro basketball in Europe or something and hope that he impresses enough to get back to the US.
