there's a place here in Pensacola that will do a Mobil 1 oil change AND wash your car (and do a good job), vacuum the interior, and clean your windows for like $40. I swore I'd never pay someone to wash my car or change my oil, but the oil and filter would be $30, maybe even $35 if I bought it myself.10/7/2006 12:25:00 PM |

not in stock form, but if youve looked under the hood of a GT-500, from what you can actually see, you can tell they left a lot of power on the table; and if the way 03-04 cobras responded to mods are any indication you can bet that for less than probably 10 grand you could make it faster than a carrera gt, and you would still have less than 1/4 of the price of the carrera GT into it. You cant deny though the carerra GT is a superior product and a beautiful car, and i would blow a load in my pants if I got to even ride in one for a 1/4 mile; but for most of us the 385k USED price tag on it is just a little out of reach, while a 50k gt-500 while still pretty much out of reach, is still a little bit more obtainable.10/9/2006 5:10:18 PM |

Quote : | ""compared an early build 2007 Shelby GT500 with a 2006 Z51 package Chevrolet Corvette. The Shelby obtained a 12.9 second quarter-mile while the Corvette ran a 12.8. The Shelby had a 100 hp advantage over the Corvette, but a 616 lb weight disadvantage. Similar tests by the magazine Road & Track reported a 13.1 second quarter-mile for the Shelby GT500. Some critics have pointed out that the weight of the car is causing estimated ET's less than expected. The weight of the Shelby GT500 with a driver is nearly 4,100 lb. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords (August 2006 issue) were able to coax low-12 second performances out of a pre-production version (best: 12.257s), with trap speeds of over 117mph."" |
Thats from wiki, so yes, with an average driver the GT-500 is a bit dissapointing, but the guys at MM&FF were able to beat a stock vette's time with it, and come close to a Z06 time; so it can be done. As for the solid rear mainly it was done for cost purposes, because ford are cheap bastards; but then again take a look at the IRS systems from the 99-04 cobras, they sucked balls and were notorious for wheel hop, honestly I would rather take the live axle

Theres more to speed than straight line... With a good or great driver it comes close to a vette... On any other form of track it is way behind. I don't have the Road & Track that the comparison was in, but if I recall it was several seconds behind the stock vette (not Z06) with the same driver. So I maintain my statement, ford/shelby fucked up.
Edit: Also, who cares if they hit low twelves with a "pre-production" car? If you can't do it with one off a showroom, it doesn't count for anything.

I've always liked z6 vettes. Despite how impressive the new 505hp one is, it still has one of the lower bhp/liter figure of many cars. Sure a 7.something liter is gonna put out 505hp. A RCR nascar engine makes 800bhp N/A. And thats on carb, stiff rules, and no computer control. The only "true" innovation in the new vette is it's ability to keep up with the Carrera in the twisties quite well.
As for the Ford, I won't even touch that, I'll get myself in trouble if I open my mouth. 10/9/2006 11:54:26 PM |

Okay, so I was kinda drunk when I saw the commercial and made the thread. Upon seeing it a few more times, its obvious that the Carrera GT is moving over to an exit to leave the highway, so I'm not even sure what the point of it is at all.

It seems to me that your view on speed is purely about the 1/4 mile. Yeah I bet you can make a GT-500 faster in the 1/4 mile. Can you make it faster around a race track for equal money? I highly doubt it. And what you do mean about power left under the hood? You implying that a lot of hp is available with the aid of a few bolt-ons? Or do you mean its underrated, b/c all I've heard is that its maybe overrated.10/9/2006 11:56:02 PM |

the point is obvious; to any non-car person, the commecial shows the GT500 blowing past a "slick, fast looking car". those who see a carrera GT will also see the carrera pulling off and thus Ford can't be accused of showing the GT500 "blowing past a Carrera GT at full speed" 10/10/2006 1:04:40 AM |

Yea, when I think of speed, ill admit, im thinking of 1/4 mile. On a road track I would say the GT500 would not come close. The power under the hood im talking about is power available by aid of a few bolt ons, i.e. the airbox and intake tube on that look like they jacked it from an F-150.

I've owned a vette and wasn't all that impressed with a lot of points. GM could have and should have done a hell of a lot better job with a lot of aspects of the car... the interior (terribly fitting plastic and the cheapest leather GM could find apparently) being a huge one. Sure performance wise it's great but having constant problems with a fuel gauge, leather seats ripping and being worn out at low mileages and column locks leaving people stranded and GM not doing shit to fix it and only issuing a bullshit recall that doesn't do anything to really fix the problem just doesn't cut it for me. I figured they'd get everything worked out on the C6 but the dumbasses used the same fuel gauge components and they were failing within 6 months of the C6 being released. Not to mention using the same steering wheel on the f'in SUNFIRE really annoyed me and proved how cheap GM is.

dear wolf web. the mustang was the 1st "tuner car" and will always remain that way... every model mustang has come with 1 major weekness.... either heads, cam or something else along those lines.... this one its the blower.lay 20lbs of boost from a larger properly sized blower and you have a 700,800+ hp car (you may need fuel system mods too i'm not sure how they set it up on the cobra). this is why they left the solid axle in the rear so people who modify them don't bitch about throwing 1/2 shafts like they did with the 03-04 model. 10/11/2006 7:50:39 AM |
