I'm goin to go drive a few over the next few days, all 00-01 with about 80,000 miles on em. I need something luxury, sporty, and AWD. So there arent to many options, this and a 330xi. Budget is $15,000 so let me hear your opinions and concerns...

Thanks in advance

Just got my 2000 S4 back in may. i love it, better than any 3-series bimmer, not the M3, but the regular 3 series. the power is unreal, handling is awesome, AWD is useful in the rain. it has it all, speed, luxury, 2 turbos, all packed into a subtle looking ride that no one sees coming. also the mods are endless. chip (ECU) upgrade, sway bars, exhaust, turbo upgrade, brakes, you name it. you can make a super car outta it. i bought mine with 68K miles on it for 15G and got a warranty. let me know if i can answer any more specific questions

I owned a a4, but not an s4. Interior is great on the a4/s4, but other than that nothing is to great. Don't buy it to make huge power or for a track car. But if you want a decently quick car with a nice interior, go for it. My friend has a modded one, and it is decently quick, but stock it can feel slow. Handling is ok, but it still has 2 open diffs.

I wouldn't enjoy replacing the k03s when they blow up if you try hot rodding it (or wouldn't enjoy the cost of it, rather).

But if you want a sexy car that has a little bit of go to it then it's a nice ride.

I've driven awd cars with open diffs and it's always sucked. One wheel burnouts and shit, no sliding. The dsm at least had a rear limited slip, and was fun as hell in the snow.

S4's are awesome. Gotta pair of guys in the car club with some beasts. However, even stock they are a complete nightmare to work on. The parts are very expensive and you have to almost pull the engine to work on anything, thus high repair bills or PIA for the DIYer.

take it to someone who specializes in audi's. the 2.7T can be a nightmare if not properly cared for.

I love my 2002 A4... but I'm scared as hell about when something goes wrong with it, I no longer have a driveway or a friend who's a VW mechanic and works for bojangles...

also when AWD hits rain without proper tires it gets all kinds of squirly... I hit an offramp today doing a bit too fast and powerslid the hell out of it... fortunately all the practice I've had doing this intentionally paid off... I'd say so far tires have been the biggest pain, you've gotta match them to 1/8th of an inch on all of them including the spair...

the best features of the interior is by far the one touch windows for all 4 windows... I love this car...

and yet I'm trading it in ASAP...

yup the first time I power slid my A4 was getting on the beltline from western, I took it at like 35 or so and drifted about 5 feet, the people in the car with me didn't even notice but I was like... Heh that was just like video games... then I started doing it intentionally... theres one corner getting on the highway from where I work now in MD that I slide every chance I get... it always feels like I"m going to go completely sideways when really I'm probably not even past 30degrees counter steering... its hella fun until I remember that I'm driving an expensive and expensive to repair vehicle...

HEY...WHO ALMOST SHAT HISSELF 2 WEEKS AGO?

I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS ME....

my jeep may not be the best handleing thing in the world but i do know its limits
and you're only starting to get close when it turns into a tri-pod.

how many times have you seen me sweat when i'm in my jeep...
(other than when you're driving)

I said in my first post that in the rain awd with bald tires gets squirly... I was continuing on that thought in my second post

dry ground I could take it at 60 and probably not even squeal... but I don't live in raleigh anymore so I don't have the opportunity to try...

I do know that I can take a 90 degree side street at 30 and not cross lanes... couldn't do that in the RSX-S I test drove... its hard finding a 0mile $20k replacement for an A4...

^It is printed in all literature on the vehicle information, and "sold" by the dealership and techs.
It also has an issue with traction control monitoring if the wheels are spinning at different relative speeds.

^ true.. rotational speed will differ with different size wheels (if they're moving at the same speed horizontally)

that'll throw off the ABS and traction control
