i didn't see a thread about this when i searched...so...
i need a free elective, and this class fits in good with the other class i'm taking on T H nights, so i kinda wanna try it. anyone know about this class at all? what's it like? as a 100-level math i can't imagine it being that difficult, but you just never know. i know it's a finance course, and i'm good with numbers, so i hope i won't have a problem with it. 10/11/2006 2:54:15 PM |

I took it last year.
It was really easy and I hate math.
You get an A if you can handle using a basic business calculator. 10/11/2006 2:58:36 PM |

great!
you'd think something that simple would be forbidden as a free elective, but not the case!
if you took it last year, do you still have the book, just in case the same edition is being used and i can borrow it from you for a semester?? 10/11/2006 3:20:35 PM |

It wasn't a bound book, but one of those packet type things.
If they're still using it, you can have the damn thing. 10/11/2006 5:34:42 PM |

I hated that class. Just a lot of busy work. Although I had a cocky TA teaching it and that was a few years ago. It wouldn't be my first choice for a free elective. If you had any kind of finance course before you should do fine. 10/16/2006 11:19:39 PM |

Will a TI-83 suffice, or do I need to go buy a business calculator? 10/17/2006 6:21:44 PM |

it says you must provide your own business calculator for the class...
so you probably have to buy your own business calculator 10/17/2006 7:56:54 PM |

A TI-83 can be used for the class (it does have the business functions built in, such as compound interest and annuities), but it might be a bit awkward. I expect the teacher will teach the class assuming you have the HP 10BII, and so you might be on your own in figuring out how to use the TI-83. 10/17/2006 8:25:00 PM |

^ that's why I'm taking it.
^^^^Considering a graphing calculator costs considerably more than a business one, I was assuming it would already perform those functions and just wanted clarification. I read the course description too, smartass. 10/18/2006 1:26:02 AM |

don't call me a smartass. the course clearly states "students will be responsible for their own finance calculator"....so i was simply restating for you what the course description says. if you knew that your TI-83 was capable of those functions, then you shouldn't have asked about it 10/18/2006 9:18:37 AM |
