i graduated in the summer. and i thought i was technically a student til this fall semester ends.
i didnt get any warning or anything.

now all they can do is foreward my emails. the guy said there is no way i can get a temp. 1 day login.

at ECU they granted me like 3 days to log in and get whatever i needed.

if i get my alumni email address, does it use the same account? all it adds is alumni.ncsu.edu or something right??

so you graduated and are upset that they took away your email address that they let you keep for free?

typically you do get to keep it longer though and there is always an email that goes out 1-2weeks prior

the alumni email address is not the same account at all

i had a spam filter, but i highly doubt it filter an email from the school. i did not recieve one at all.

im not upset at the fact that i lost my account, its just that i never got a warning email. i had some important emails in there. nothing life threatening, but some stuff that i really would like to foreward/save.

All unity account deactivations are logged in their system. Call the HelpDesk and figure out when the system said it sent out the notification for your unity id.

I'd take the 1-day thing and run with it ... that's pretty generous of them. I'd create a gmail account and transfer everything over there ... pretty quick/easy drag and drop in most good email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.). You can also have them forward email from your old NCSU account to the gmail account ... I'm still getting stuff a year later.

just wait until you can get whatever company you work for to let you do continuing education.

When you register again, it will reactivate your account, and all your shit will be exactly as you left it (I was VERY suprised when, after TWO YEARS, I came back for graduate school and my shit was still there, exactly as I left it)

its 400 bucks to enroll in continuing ed.

It's worth it just for the gym/pool/library/health center.

Okay, so since I work at ITD, maybe I can answer a few of these questions.

First, e-mailed notifications were sent to deactivated account holders a month and then a week before being disabled. It would appear that some people did not receive these notices, hence the confusion. When the e-mail doesn't reach folks, I agree that it's frustrating, but there's not a lot we can do about that. We can't call or follow up with thousands of people that are no longer affiliated with the university.

Second, account disabling occurs only when you are NOT registered for classes and NOT in the univeristy payroll system. For people that completed coursework in August, but are not graduating until December, please DO contact the Helpdesk for assistance. If it's reasonable, they really will be glad to help you out. Please do understand, however, that the Helpdesk does not have any direct control over these accounts, but they will try to help you out.

Third, with respect to "alumni" account access... ITD extends four months of "courtesy" limited access to your Unity account once you've graduated. This is to help you transition away from using your Unity e-mail, etc. The University does NOT offer any official alumni e-mail access (we simply can't offer to host e-mail for hundreds of thousands of graduated students). The Alumni Association does, apparently, offer some sort of e-mail hosting service (more information available here: http://www.alumni.ncsu.edu/online/).

If you have additional questions, please let me know.

Basically, yes. The exact timeframe typically varies a little bit, as I understand it. The fact that there is a set timeframe is meant to encourage former students to begin moving away from using Unity mail, and NCSU computing resources. There tend to be a number of people that, once they've graduated, will continue to come in and use computer labs, etc.
