so last week i started my bike up to ride to work after it had been sitting out in the rain all weekend, had to choke it a little but it started up fine.... it ran really rough at low RPM's, but when I opened up the throttle it would clear up, when I came to a stop light and the engine idled, it cut off. It started back the first time, but did the exact same thing at the next stoplight but this time wouldnt start. The motor would turn all day, but it just wouldnt start. About an hour later after the motor had cooled down, it started back up just fine and ran smooth until I came to a stoplight, and when the RPM's dropped the motor died again, and it wouldnt start. An hour later it would start back up but did the same thing. Well I took off the gas tank and drained it out thinking I might have gotten some water in there, but the gas looked clear and today when I put it back together with clean gas, it wont start. The motor will turn all day, but it just wont start up. Any ideas? I heard from somebody it might be the CDI igniter box, but I don't know much about that. The bike is a 1995 ZX6-e... lemme know what you think.

i'd start with some new spark plugs, about 99% of the time it ends up being the problem on things llike that that i have seen, before you start going deeper into the ignition and carbs

i can try new plugs... i didnt know if that would have caused the engine to die at idle though

yup, less rpm= less voltage availibe to the cdi= less likely to fire fouled plugs

If I'm not painting a box truck this week, I can probably do it. I've changed a girl's tampon before, does that make me qualified?

do ur plugs, put in a fresh tank of fuel. take ur carbs apart spray 'em down with carb cleaner. change ur air filter while u take ur air box off to get to ur carbs.

ur bike should be extra easy to work on. go onto a gs500 message board. i saw a couple when i was lookin at pickin up a gs500.

i cant bring it anywhere, it wont start and i dont have any way of hauling it.... and the bike is not the gs500 in my gallery, that is my old bike.... its a Kawasaki zx-6e. but i am willing to pay somebody to fix it if they can either come to my place and do it or come pick it up.... give me an idea of how much you would charge?

oh this was 2.5 years ago when all i knew to do was change oil. i was afraid of jumpin' in on shit on my bikes since i was hiding them from my rents at the time. so i couldnt borrow my dad's tools and i had none of my own.

also i for some reason i thought bikes were more complex than cars.

oh well you live you learn then you get loves . i try to do all my stuff now on my bikes.

doing what your bike needs to run (most likely) should take an afternoon. it's one thing if you hate working on your own stuff though. for example i refuse to do electrical work right now im scurred of it bwhaha

oh yeah bout ur bike idling low then dying could be water got in one of ur plugs some how. although that's a lot harder to do than my sv650.

water got in my front plug once from a hard rain.. and it did the same shit your describing changed the plugs and it fixed the prob. right up. still need to pickup a fender extender to prev. that in the future.

also even though it's an older bike do you cover it up? i always cover my shit, rain just wears them the hell out!

yeah that very well could be the problem.... i usually cover it up, i just didnt last weekend when it rained so much. i was out of town and forgot to cover it before i left and when i got back was the first time i had any problems, so water gettin in the plugs makes sense

alright so now im not sure if its the spark plugs.... i tried to start it again today and the motor turned at first, but really slow, and it gradually got slower and finally when i pushed the button it wouldn't do anything, not a sound. I could wait a few minutes and the motor would turn again, but get slower and finally not do anything. I checked the battery but according to my voltage meter its fine, and the turn signals and stuff still work. Any ideas and does anybody have any free time and wanna make some extra cash by coming and fixin it?
