If someone wants professional banner ads on their site, such as the ones found in facebook or other internet sites (banner ads from like A list companies), where do you go to get these on your site? does anyone know of a company online that supplies these?

yes, but i just think the "google ads" are so tacky, and moreso annoying. I'm also trying to capture more "view" revenue and less "click" revenue.....but not sure where to go to find the companies that supply the banner ads.

For instance, facebook doesn't supply its own banner ads.....it contracts through a company that tells them to put a certain html code "here" and the contracted company deals with supplying and loading the ad

and google ads are your best bet, unless you want porn. They pay considerably more per click than anyone else.

your other option is to run your own system for the site and filter your own advertisers. Similar to what hardocp.com and penny-arcade.com do.

and are you saying companies, such as facebook, only get paid when someone actually "clicks" on the colorful banner ad, and not just "views" it?

Yes, that is the only way you will get paid for views.

Facebook also runs their own internal system.

But you are going to have a very very hard time doing something similar, unless you generate a large amount of traffic.

Hey neon - thanks for all the help, really appreciate it - just one last question

Is it possible for someone to set up a link, such as ESPN.com, to where when users click on it they are taken to the site, as well as (with a pre-arranged deal), charge ESPN $.005/click, and $.005/search (in their search box)?

In other words, is it possible to set up a site where it will record the amount of clicks of an individual link, and the record the number of searches in a search box?

If this is too confusing, just let me know....it's kinda tough to describe

commission junction is a site with banner ads that you can pick through, with assigned commissions for different events, such as a user clicking on the ad, and signing up for the service, brings in xx amount of dollars.

Thats about as controlled as it gets for affiliate and commission revenue outside of adsense.

Most of the rest are just copys of googles system.

BUT, like NOEN said, you will not get paid for views generally. I have a few advertisers that I made yearly contracts with for placed banners on my site, but its not really that easy of a system unless you have some good programming skills... and a good site. Most companies wont pay for specialized banners unless the audience of your site is directly focused on their specific demographic of customer.

Actually Facebook does do its own ads. Other companies specialize in this too...such as Clicksor.

Clicksor has the following recommended rates that I charge.....

$.05 CPC (Cost Per Click)
$.003 CPV (Cost Per Visitor)
$0.5 CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions)

those numbers are a bit depressing, oh well, gotta start somewhere I guess

I used Commission Junction a long, long time ago. They had different rates for everything and at the time would try to let you target your audience as well as you could within the ads they provided.

we used commission junction at verizon wireless as one of two online banner servers m(or whatever you want to call them). there were tons of them floating around - we only paid if orders were made on a click-through from your site (but it was something like a min of $25 - of which CJ took a cut then passed on the rest to the website).

make sure you read up on the contracts. i know at VZW they could cancel without payment at any time - and we did any time we thought someone was committing fraud.
