Monday is the nationwide release of a new Blockbuster system that allows online users to return movies to any store to automatically rent an in-store movie with a spot in their queue. This will essentially combine the best of both worlds and makes me happy that I've been a Blockbuster user since the price won't increase.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Blockbuster and I think many people may jump ship to have the flexibility of returning in-store for automatic rentals or faster clearing of your queue and the ability to grab a new release the day it comes out.

Kudos to Blockbuster!

This is a cool idea, but I still don't think it's gonna hurt Netflix. I actually just cancelled my Netflix, but if I hadn't I still wouldn't consider switching to Blockbuster. Unless I got the sudden urge to see Weekend At Bernie's II, this would have fairly little value to me.

I've had Blockbuster and Netflix and BB has been much better. I receive the movies faster than Netflix and for me BB is only 2 miles away so the new system will be great for me. BB is better (imo) even if they didn't implement this new plan. For the "big releases" if you go on any Tuesday before 7pm there is a very good chance that you can get whatever movie you want to rent.

blockbuster blows. they rarely have the movies I want, and if they do they're likely to be edited to hell. fuck blockbuster. netflix is a godsend for shut-in, film snobs.

the point of netflix for me is that i can find random movies that blockbusters don't have. i guess it could come in handy occasionally if i watned to watch some recent movie i missed at theaters. but i rarely care that much about that.

Who (besides current bb users) would want to drive to the bb store, go in and poke through a crappy selection when they can order it from netflix and get it a day later?

bb is still on the way out. they're hanging onto their legacy customers just like aol is hanging on to theirs. (though aol has switched their business model and will probably make it, bb did too late and i doubt they will).

I've had BBO and Netflix and I'd much rather use Netflix. With Netflix it would take 1 day for them to receive a movie and another day for them to get me a new one. With BBO I have no idea how long it's going to take a movie to get to me. I was sent Unleashed on 10/02 according to the website. On 10/9 I reported it lost in the mail and requested another copy sent to me. On 10/11 I received BOTH copies. I sent both back at the same time on 10/14 and they weren't cleared from my list until yesterday. Only once has a movie arrived in the amount of time the website said (which was still 2 days). I wish I had cancelled my BBO account before they charged me (2 days before the trial was officially over).
