O2 Fitness or Impact Fitness are both quality gyms

Is O2 all about 1-on-1 workouts, or does it have a regular membership? It's in a nice location for me but doesn't seem to have any monthly rates....

This guy is going to be the new mack daddy in Cary

http://www.lifetimefitness.com/cary/

If memory serves correct, then it's $100 start up fee, and ~$60 month after that.

If you live with a current student prices to use the university gym are dirt cheap. Like $40 a semester. They have pretty good alumni rates as well.

getting to campus, parking, quality of equipment, and the crowd make it hard for anyone not living on campus or going to campus regularly for school/work to use the NCSU gym. Being dirt cheap does not make it worthwhile to use the NC State gym

Planet Fitness. $10 a month, $30 signup fee. you don't have to pay for a long-term contract. they have a ton of good cardio equipment and enough free weights to get a decent workout in.

If you're looking for a good weightlifters gym, then you might as well stop looking. There aren't any unless you want to head out to Clayton.

I'm looking at gyms right now. Central Y is 30 or 35(?) . They are doing construction right now and will open all new facilities, but their old stuff will be open until the new is open and you get a membership to other area y's included. Plus, they have raquet ball courts and massages in the locker room. They also had all the normal cardio stuff and rec leagues.

Peak downtown just seemed flat out gay and the hag of a fitness instructor who showed me around just annoyed me. She kept trying to show me these freemotion compressed air machines (that have no neg. motion) because they give her a "good burn." They have new equipment and plenty of cardio stuff and classes.

Gold's was nice, but a bit out of the way. I don't remember the prices but, i want to say they are little more like 45? They too, had a lot of cardio and classes in addition to a large weight machine and freeweight area. I got free passes to golds, the y and peak. I'll try out gold's and the y again.

I checked out powerhouse fitness on davie street. However, the owner wasn't in to talk money. It is definetly a weightlifter's gym. It's in an old building, but so what. The equipment was old, but seemed clean. I am going to go back to talk money and workout for free later this week.

Peak Fitness in McGregor Village in Cary/Apex off of 64.

$14 a month special right now. It's ok, pretty basic but they have a dry sauna, steam room, and big jacuzzi as well as an indoor 2nd story track. They said they're planning on expanding soon too...

what if i told you that most of the YMCAs around raleigh are fuckign dope for getting your moneys worth if all you want is a decent gym with a sauna/steam room and pool?

is that something yuo might be interested in?

Planet Fitness in Cary is pretty basic if you're looking for a place to workout.

$10 per month after $40 first-time fee...

Of the places I talked money at, I am leaning towards the Y.

powerhouse is still open? guess I had been told wrong about him actually selling the place.

when I went and talked to them in may, it was $35 a month, and you were required to pay 3 months at a time. you'll still need another gym for cardio though, or else buy your own cardio equipment to keep at home.

[Edited on October 25, 2006 at 2:11 PM. Reason : powerhouse fitness is the only gym in raleigh with a deadlift platform; that's why I considered them]

you don't get the same growth hormone response doing cardio in cold weather like we have most of the year. I'd rather be bundled up in sweats doing cardio than freezing my ass off and not getting the same weight-loss effects.

all three of them squeak like crazy. they also have a broken versaclimber sitting in the corner behind the desk. they'll tell you when you sign up there that almost all of their members have another gym they go to for cardio or keep equipment at home. IIRC, they told me their biggest member and NPC competitor, Squirrel, never did cardio. his pictures are all over the place.

Looking for one in the immediate area with a swimming pool. I'm used to Carmichael and the Harris YMCA in Charlotte ... looking for something comparable if it exists. Big plus if its easy to get to I-40 from it as well. Central YMCA looks like a good option at the moment. Other thoughts/opinions?

I used to go to O2 fitness in high school... became a pain to go there when I wasn't going to be out there with high school friends anymore. I had a great trainer and enjoyed dealing with the owner/operator from time to time but their overall management could be the worst though! And yes, they had regular membership... it was like $150 to join, $53/mo.

I'm at Planet Fitness now and really like what I get for $15/mo

Just joined today. If anyone else is thinking about joining I get my enrollment fee back, and will split the price with you. It does not open until April, but the place looks amazing.

my boss gave me a brochure for that place today while we were driving to a meeting. that gym looks more like an amusement park than a workout facility.

Thirding Peak. I just joined about a month ago after Beyond closed and it's worth every penny of the $15 and more.

I'm looking for a gym either downtown or on the beltline, ideally, or maybe in Cary, since I work there. Any recommendations? I really need to get in shape.

O2 Fitness is awesome. (http://www.o2fitnessclubs.com/)

The Cary location is the nicest of them but I use the North Raleigh one. They cap their membership numbers so it can't get too crowded which is really nice. Less of the meathead/social-scene and more just people working out. We like it much better than Gold's Gym.

I was a member at PEAK and they basically ripped me off of $200 plus. After I cancelled my membership they charged me for two additional months and wouldn't stop.

That place is the WORST! DO NOT SIGN UP!

OVER HALF OF THEIR TREADMILLS WERE OUT OF ORDER AND THE UPHOLSTERY ON THE MACHINES WERE HALF OFF!

what did you expect? they were stupid enough to buy out what's left of Beyond Fitness, and they make very similar management decisions. They'll be bankrupt within 5-6 years.

Can you peak fitness people tell me more about it?

Does it get crowded? Adequate free weights? Dip belts? Medicine balls?

I just did. I paid the outrageous $200 startup fee, plus $15 a month, went there ONCE and demanded my money back... they wouldn't give it to me.

It's dirty. The machines are out of order. It's disgusting.
