get a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 line PATA (this is IDE) hard drive, find whatever you want

Seagate is generally one of the best regardless of IDE, SCSI, etc

I've also had pretty good success Western Digital

I've had bad luck with Western Digital drives. I've had 3-80 gigs, 2-250's, 1-200 and a 40 gig all die on me which is all but 1 Western Digital drive I've ever owned. I've never had trouble with the Maxtor drives that I've owned and I just picked up my first Seagate. I've RMA'd more than 6 hard drives so Seagates are very appealing with their 5 year warranty.

you'd be nuts to not go with a seagate.

there's something to be said for the 5yr warranty they put on their hdds. even if the hdd happens to fail (and you'd better have a backup regardless), you get a new hdd ... you just can't beat that.

seagate for performance, hitachi for acoustics, everything else is crap
