that's not the argument
the claim was that he is the best qb to never win the super bowl
that man's name is Dan marino, not peyton manning
and i say that wearing an 18 colts jersey as i type this 10/29/2006 7:51:21 PM |

I have a Peyton jersey on too.....I think clutch should be factored in to best quarterback never to win the super bowl. How else do you judge, pass percentage? Yards? Touchdowns vs interceptions? Wins vs Loses? 10/29/2006 8:02:45 PM |

I'm pretty sure Dan Marino has the record for most 4th quarter comebacks or something along those lines. Him and John Elway are the top 2....with Elway MAYBE passing him in his last season or two...but I don't think so.10/29/2006 8:13:45 PM |

as of this second, Marino had a better career.... but baring injury or some weird Barry Sanders shit, Manning will easily go down as the greatest QB ever. It wont even be close. And I am not just talking statistically.... 10/29/2006 9:42:07 PM |

manning is ridiculously good. i had no doubt tonight that he would drive the colts for an easy field goal to win the game. its almost really weird when he throws a pick 10/29/2006 10:17:16 PM |

^^^^no, you're talking as a Tennessee fan.
good ole floppy cock.
Peyton very well may be the best QB ever... but lets wait to decide that. The greatest QB ever wore the same jersey, just a different different number.

Unless he wins a championship...then you'll have to just talk statistically.
If he keeps going the way he's going, then it puts him on par with the Elways, Marinos, and Montanas. But if he goes o-fer with the Super Bowls...then he can only go as high as Marino, with the Montanas and Elways surpassing him.
But at least he'll always have his commercials.....CUT THAT MEAT! CUT THAT MEAT!10/29/2006 10:43:46 PM |

not talking as a homer at all... being purely objective.
If Manning plays 12-15 years, he will easily be the greatest QB ever. And like I have said before, you give him Bradys defense for 5 years, and I have no doubt he would have had at least one ring already. He has had a comparable defense for ONE year and the were a Roethlisberger fingertip away from the super bowl...
^^ um, thats why I said he WILL be, but isnt yet... so I am waiting...dumbass

He's laid a couple eggs in the playoffs. Because he collapses under playoff pressure doesn't mean you can blame it on the defense. If he was getting beat 45-42, then I would understand that argument.
When he quits losing the big games when it counts (like when he was a Vol), then you can put him up there.10/29/2006 11:24:26 PM |

Ok, Brady didnt win it last year... so he must have flopped. Once again, you give him Brady's defense for 5 years, and he would have one at least one of those years. And people conveniently forget the big games he does win. Like that amazing comeback against Tampa 3 years ago, hell the game today was impressive, destoyed a defense that was on a record pace.
Its so funny how people hate on him, its like they cant stand that hes a nice guy, always says the right thing, is humble etc. People love to tear down a good guy. 10/29/2006 11:27:53 PM |

I actually like him. I just don't like people saying "if he continues his play.......BEST EVER!!" He's a great QB, but if he just continues with the big stats and never wins a ring, then he'll just end up being one of the greatest (like top 10).
And if you're trying to argue "big games" to say he's going to be the best ever...then regular season and early round playoff games don't count.10/29/2006 11:44:54 PM |

So anyone else think I am stupid for saying Peyton should be MVP now?
In a thread about a month ago I was about the only one to say he will win.
McNabb came back to his normal self today and Steve Smith's team is losing too much. 10/29/2006 11:48:34 PM |

That's not what I'm saying. You've got to combine stats and results. There is a certain level of talent QBs have to have to be great....Montana, Elway, Manning, Marino, Unitas, etc. Then when those QBs start winning Super Bowls (or at least AFC Championships), that puts them at another level. That's all I'm saying.10/30/2006 12:02:22 AM |

so what exactly is the cutoff?
I mean, could manning trade 30 career tds for 1 one ring? or would he then be too low in the stat category? what about the best season by a QB ever for 2 rings? 10/30/2006 12:09:09 AM |

Winning the Super Bowl doesn't mean that your a great QB
Not winning the Super Bowl with great teams, however, indicates that you choke under pressure and/or cannot elevate your game when the team needs it most. Which has been the knock on Peyton since college. He's been on so many great teams, with zero rings to show for it. Thats not a fluke. 10/30/2006 12:52:07 AM |

Hey, lets put words into other people's mouths.
Of course Manning hasn't hurt the Colts super bowl hopes. He just hasn't helped them as much as a clutch QB like, say, Tom Brady has helped the Patriots.10/30/2006 1:01:10 AM |
