What are the opinions when comparing classic rock and modern rock in terms of composition, technicality, instrumental aspect, lyrics, etc ?

I am considering classic rock to be from about 1950-1990, and modern rock being after that.

Oldies: 50s-early 60s
Classic Rock: early 60s-late 70s(not including disco)
80's: 80s, duh.. This includes the "hair" bands
Classic alternative: 80s
Modern Rock:90s-current
Modern alternative:90s-current
