I know other peeps on tdub take their exotics here. Just wondering if you've ever had problems with their service.

I took the girls to get revolution in Sept when my apt was infested with fleas. Got there and found out it was going to be like $200 to have it done, so nixed that idea. Before we declined treatment I asked if we'd be charged if we just said no thanks and left, the nurse asked the doc and came back and said no. So we left. A month later I get a call about outstanding charges. Of course I'm thinking wtf, so I talk to the receptionist and she says oh I'm sorry I'll correct it. Now, for the past two months I've been getting "welcome new client" postcards from them like mad...we've been seeing them for 3 years. And now today I get a bill in the mail for that same procedure we didn't have except its accrued interest now! I'm thoroughly pissed with them at this point. Has anyone else experienced this from them?

They way overheated the cage my boa Nitro was in after he had gotten out of surgery and they almost killed him. I came in back and they had fans on him, an ultrasound-type machine, and he had his mouth open trying to ventilate. Needless to say I was pretty fuckin upset and they didn't take anything off the bill for it either.

I have been using them for over 3 years now for my birds and I have absolutely no complaints with Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

We have had several minor emergencies and one major emergency, and they have been great. They were very good about discussing treatment options with us. They have always given us an estimate that was higher than what they actually ended up charging us. They've been very prompt with calling us to keep us up dated on their status and consulted us before doing anything that wasn't discussed. And they were awesome when it came to working out a payment plan for $1,000+ in bills.

They did surgery to correct my Quaker's broken leg. If you had seen the horrible condition my Quaker was in prior to surgery and now he does not even have a limp. They were even surprised with the recovery that he made and I credit it all to their phenomenal work.

But all of my experience with them is bird related and I do not deal with all of the doctors in their office.

^Mhhm, that would be a different doctor. My problem I don't think arose with the doctors though, I guess it was a reception snafu. Once again they said it would be corrected...so we'll see.

i've taken my snakes, my beardies, and my iguanas there, and never had a problem...but then, none of them have ever had major surgery, or extended stays...might also be a different doctor since they're reptiles

ive used both A&E care and the Dixie Trail animal hospital for my gecko

A&e will overcharge- nothing they did seem to help
Dixie was closer to campus, cheaper and I saw more results with their treatments. I also felt like they gave me and Gordy more personal attention

^Hm, I'm vaguely familiar with them. My concern is their experience with chinchilli, they tend to get lumped into a "fuzzy rodent" category, when in reality their internal set-up is more akin to that of a horse. I looked up D.T.'s website and it looks kosher though, I might schedule their next check-up there and see how it goes.

I have taken my female rabbit there to get spayed and didn't have any problem except for the fact that is was $400(but I was expecting it to be expensive).

I think most vets charge a up front visit fee whether or not you accept treatment for your pet.

they ended up trying to dump a $500 bill on me a while back, when they quoted me at like 200-250. they never called to let me know treatment was going to go past what they told me, and i had to fight them for it. my gecko was in horrible shape when i got it back, it died hours after i got it home. fortunately, i got them to knock like $300 off the bill for not telling me anything, and also for blood work that cost me big that they actually never performed. i have only had one good experience with them, and that was just getting mites treated. but now i can do that on my own at a tiny fraction of what they charge.

FUCK AVIAN AND EXOTIC ANIMAL CARE

the vet i usually take my rats to in Cary was out of town, so last time my rat got sick i took her to avian and exotic, since no one else seemed to want to deal with rats in particular. avian and exotic said sure they can take care of it.

she was having problems breathing, loked a little bloated, did not move around a whole lot and didnt eat or shit for like two days.

well, their doctor looked her over and before asing any further questions told me she was pregnant. i should have walked out right then, because she lives in a cage with another female rat and although i suspect they might be lesbos theres no way in hell she could have gotten pregenant. well anyhow, the doctor told me he needed to do some lab tests, took some samples, after some wait he gave me a prescription for antibiotics, although he couldn't really tell me exactly what the problem was. i left with a 150 dollar bill i beleive. the rat kicked the bucket the night after. i called them up to cancel the follow-up appointment and told them she died. they called me up the day after it ws meant to be scheduled and were wondering why i didnt make it and whether i need to rescheule. that was about a year ago, i still get goodamn yearly checkup reminders from them.

im sure you fuckers probably didnt even read all that angry rattlin, but thats just my two cents

I take my fids there (a bunch of cockatiels and a G2) and haven't had a problem with billing. No problems with treatment either as long as I see Dr. Ross, and I won't let my beebs see anyone else.

I took my iguana there when he had a skin problem. looked like his skin was rotting. he'd been the picture of health for 5 years until this point.

I took him in. They didn't seem too happy to be dealing with an iguana in the first place and made me feel bad about his behavior. he's a fullgrown male iguana - they're generally jerks to anyone they don't know. of course he's pissed off.

The doctor didn't know what it was. so he took blood sample and took a sample for a culture and biopsy. meanwhile he decides to treat it as if its a bacteria and fungi infection. so i'm giving my ig 3 different oral meds/day plus applying a cream to the infected areas twice a day. my iguana now hates me and does everything in his power to get away from me. (scratches and bites and tail wips galore).

after two checkups and they get the results back and a $1000 later = they don't know what it is.
advice/treatment: continue doing whatever i was doing since my husbandry practices seem great.

luckily he's fine. just has some ugly patches
