What are you're opinions.
Honda Fit or Toyota Matrix
their both priced very similar, and both with lots of cargo room.

I would like to get the matrix, but people say its ugly or taken from a pontiac vibe platform. Any suggestions?

You mean the Pontiac Vibe is taken from the Matrix. Its a Toyota car that is also sold through Pontiac. I personally love mine. I have had it since 2002. No problems. Its not the fastest car around but I love the cargo room and its been extremely reliable.

2007 Honda Fit:
http://automobiles.honda.com/models/model_overview.asp?ModelName=Fit

What is your requirements for a car? Do you want a new or used car? You planning to finance the car or pay in cash? The fit is a very simple car with almost no creature comfort.

We got a Matrix for the 'family car' because we wanted something with a decent amount of space but didn't want to make the jump to a SUV. We've had it for a year now, it has been a great all around car for trips, grocery getting, trips to Lowes, around town.

As far as the styling, the Matrix doesn't go as fast as it looks like it should The 1ZZFE is not very torquey but is good on gas. We've gotten 35mpg on long trips with the car loaded and roof rack on. If you want more power go for an XRS, I believe its about 45 more horsepower than the base or XR model.

Another styling detail is the interior, people either love it or hate it, especially the driver's seating position. Its more upright than most small cars, similar to a compact pickup truck instead of a compact car where you feel like you're sitting on the floor.

I parked next to a Fit this weekend and noticed how much smaller it is. Its about 1.5' shorter lengthwise and a couple of inches shorter in height.

I think the Vibe is a derivative of the Matrix. I know they are made in different factories but with similar tooling. Kind like the 90's Chevy Novas that were really Toyota Corollas, they're 90% the same with some styling differences.

The reason i'm asking is, one i will be getting a new car soon, money really isn't a problem; but i wanted something that is more environmentally friendly and less impactful at the gas station.

So cargo room is another big thing. I want to be able to move groceries, luggages, bookbags, ; pretty much Anything. I do like the FIT's interior. You can set it up in many ways but the exterioir looks really small.

Matrix is nice because it has more power, little bit lenghtier and the same amount of space.

I was curious, how much did you pay for the FIT (total ) if you bought one, and for the Matrix (total)./ Do you think the dealership will budge with prices??

The sticker price on my car was about 18-19 when I got it. I have no idea how much they retail for now but I paid significantly lower than sticker. I have the XR model. The dealership WILL budge. Just make them an offer.

i don't think you can compare those two cars.

isn't the fit smaller with a smaller and less powerful engine than the base matrix?

My friend just got a Fit, it's pretty tight, corners like a motherfucker and has way more space inside than you'd think. I'm 6' and I have at least 4 inches over my head. Pretty cool little car.

yo bro! I didnt see "cargo space" or "interior volume" in your requirement so...

why not just stick with your Prelude?

You talking about Nova/Corolla or Vibe/Matrix? I don't doubt the old Novas/Corollas had nothing different but the emblems, but the Vibe and Matrix have different body tooling and are from different plants.

They both have a Corolla chassis but the Vibe is styled by GM and built in Fremont, California and the Matrix is styled by Toyota and built in Ontario Canada. There is more different than just the usual badging or bumpers/headlight/taillight changes. Sheet metal on the two cars is a bit different. Subtract all the Vibe's plastic crap and you will see the doors, hood, fenders, and the rear windows are still not interchangeable between the makes.
