In which sport do you consider yourself to have the most know-how as far as the nuances of the game or the players and the stats, etc...

I'm sure some of you would love to say that you're knowledgable in every sport, in which I'm sure a sport specialist on this board could probably rip you apart.

So lets see which sport you're "best" at.

As for me, it would be NBA basketball over any other sport I watch.

Mixed Martial Arts

not super proficient, but because of my wrestling background i can tell you what is goin on in most circumstances roughly

i know nothing about football, ive just played it for half my life

im not a statmonger need-all-the-details kinda guy, just never have been

i've played, coached, reffed, and watched basketball for years, so that'd be #1. i have a pretty solid understanding of football. i know most of the rules for baseball but couldnt really talk strategy, and i'm gettin better with hockey as i watch it more and more.

eh, probly tennis , if you're talking about knowing the most about any sport

i tend to catch things in football games on TV before announcers mention them quite often (but who doesnt)

oh yea, forgot tennis. there's not much to it though once you understand the rules. i guess it'd be my #2 though since it and basketball are the only ones i've played in an organized fashion.

Ice Hockey. Not so much knowing players, even though I know a ton of them, especially the old school players, but moreso the history of the game, strategy, exactly what's going on in the game, other things. I've played ice hockey since I was 4 years old, so I'm bound to be a near expert on the game. I kind of want to coach some Pee-Wee hockey in a few years. Pee-Wee hockey b/c it's the first age group in which they allow the kids to hit. I see so many kids that don't know how to hit, or take a hit, and that's one big part of the game. You can get injured pretty easily if you don't have proper form or don't know how to protect yourself. Also I'd be the coach of the goalies and defense, b/c that's where my main experience is.

I'm not piled on too heavily in any one sport... I pretty much know how to watch all of the big five; I'm a bit more versed in history and statistics in some sports more than others, but yeah... I don't really consider myself a specialist at any one sport. Just knowledgeable enough to hold a valid opinion from time to time, and able enough to defer to someone who clearly and consistently knows better than I do. For instance, I won't argue Cubs baseball with phishnlou, or U of Tenn... pretty much anything with Jaybee#s.

i'm with chris on the mixed martial arts/wrestling, because i also wrestled in high school. in addition, i practiced tae kwon do for a couple of years when i lived in south korea, and grew up around martial arts, cqc, and boxing my whole life; picking up a bit here and there from my dad and various people.

after that, i'm gonna say football.

ah i didnt really read the original post. i thought it was more expertise of the sport and not the players, stats, and history. yea i understand the game as far as players and such, but i didnt really get into it til i started playin in high school, so my knowledge depth with current players is deeper than the names you mentioned, but i only know the prominent names of tennis's history prior to the agassi/sampras era.

It's knowledge of the rules, knowledge of the players, knowledge of the history, all of it. The sport you know best, inside and out.

NBA history is by far the weakest part of my knowledge, since I simply wasn't born back in those times. I at least know enough to know of the players that helped shape the game into what it is today.

At the same time, I'm pretty sure I could spout off at least seven players on every NBA team currently. I'm at least knowledgable in the players that are currently playing the game.

I could sit in the bar, talk about how the new ball will help the game of basketball, then talk about the Memphis Grizzlies and discuss whether they can hold on until Pau Gasol comes back from foot surgery. Pro ball is what I know, and I can talk about it without being ignorant about it (i.e. Kobe sucks, Lebron sucks, NBA sucks, bunch of thugs, etc...).

So if you can talk about tennis and talk about the Paris Masters Series and how it sucks that all the big names are dropping out, and predict that David Nalbandian is going to win the whole thing, and then go into discussion about your favorite racket (Wilson Ncode Ntour2), then yeah, you got some tennis knowledge and it could very well be your "expert" sport.

i could go on for days with bball, hours for tennis and football, and minutes with baseball and hockey.

i think of expertise coming more from first hand experience though, so i didnt really consider stats and stuff from pro-leagues. i get what you're sayin now though, and i'll conform to fit the thread topic.

When I was younger...it really did use to be everything. But i've become disinterested in baseball and hockey over the years. I consider myself an expert in college and professional football and basketball. If I had to pick one....I'd probably say college basketball, but I've started back heavy on NBA lately.

I suck at stats and everything..but i understand every little nuance that happens in football. I mostly argue with the announcers during games... I know I have a better view than they do with my TV, but they say some dumb/wrong shit... it seems there really aren't any good announcers nowadays.

I would say it used to be college bball but has turned to college football. I can talk more history on college bball but I could talk more strategy with college football. It may just be b/c we are in season for football. Ask me in 3 months and I'll probably say bball.
