I figured I'd make a thread about this for peeps that may be interested in heading up to the dragon this weekend. There's an Evo group meeting up at Fontana Village (tentative) on Friday and I was thinking about heading out there early early saturday and then coming back early sunday. This post is basically to see if anyone else is interested and if we get enough then we could probably do our own thing and have somewhat of a mini event. This is pretty last minute so I don't have great expectations for this thread .

I can probably make it down Saturday afternoon and hang out. It'd be fun to meet some of you guys in person since I never met most of you during my actual time at NCSU

I've got a Med School event to attend with my girlfriend Friday that will involve staying up really late and drinking a lot, so getting to the Dragon anytime before 1PM or so Saturday is unlikely

By the way, how about posting your real names and the car you drive so those of us that don't know the others in real life can find ya?

I drove it Oct. 21-22 and stayed at Fontana Village overnight.. Definitely a blast to drive if any of you haven't gone. Just stay in your lane and don't push your car past its limits.

I would suggest staying overnight and doing a night run. Also, check out the Fontana Dam for a great picture spot.

you should go on a real weekend trip through the backwoods of west va, va, and tn, those roads make the dragon look like a damned kansas highway

Gonna be awfully cold at night, be sure to bring a warm bag. I'm not saying it isn't doable, awesome camping spots around, just make sure you bring enough gear

I've been talking to mark and it seems to be the best option...that is if you're all man enough to drive roughly 12 hrs in one day.

I'm definitely coming. Not sure if I'll be staying overnight yet though. If I do, my roommate will probably tag along on his bike. Luckily it's only a 2.5 hour drive for us

holy crap a day trip to the dragon is stupid. You will just be too exhausted. When I ran the dragon in April I did it down and back like 4 times in one day and found it to be the most mentally and physically exhausting driving ever. Especially since you have to focus really closely so you don't end up in a tree...

I mean I guess some people do it but that's just too much for me.

For all you guys coming from Raleigh, I really would recommend a hotel...it's not the kind of thing you want to day trip from that far away. I do it all the time from here, but that's only 2.5 hours and it's stil a struggle to stay awake for the ride home.

Its sunny friday and sunny sunday so I'm thinking saturday will just be isolated storms here if at all. 40% chance of precip isn't that bad.

We'll head out saturday morning at 5am as planned. I'll look into some hotels tonight that we can have the option of crashing at if we chose to that. It doesn't really matter to me as I'll be pretty wired during the entire day and probably won't sleep at night.

All of us in a room would probably make the cost 15$ a person.
