IIRC, cat FUR color is controlled by relatively fewer genes than human skin color. Think of cat fur color falling into discrete classes and human skin color being a continuous range between two extremes.

The author's predictions are completely unfounded. Where has this happened in other species that also actively and preferentially select mates?

all that's changed since then is that we're taller, and even that's mostly from better nutrition, not evolution
