on nfl primetime on espn, just said that he thinks nc state should be looking for cowher; said somthing along the lines of alma mater and things like that and said he knows cowher is frustrated, just bought a house in Raleigh, etc.

said don't say it to bill cowher b/c he won't say anything and will tell you he will never quit, but it sounded as though salisbury thinks cowher might seriously not coach in the nfl after this year

okay, even if Cowher was thinking about coming to State, I don't think he wants to take over a program before taking atleasta year off to get his mind straight and study up on college football.

^^^yeah he does, but it could be more encouraging considering this is the first time that I have heard one of the NFL analysts talk about Cowher really considering retirement, and also mention nc state

it is still a pipe dream i know, but it would be freaking awesome

as the steelers continue to do shittier and shittier (note: they are the defending Superbowl champs and their record at the halfway point of the season is 2-6 including losing to OAKLAND) the possibility will actually become more realistic...still completely dependent on how State finishes and how the Steelers finish...and there are like a hundred threads about Cowher and State

^^ i know there are a bunch of threads about cowher and state, but i thought this was really interesting that salisbury would mention it and i thought it could get overlooked in other threads

its sad to think we might have a good year next year and if cowher does want to come in after next year it will be harder to get rid of Amato.

^^I think 6-7 years is long enough to prove what you can do as a coach.

I think if Cowher went straight to Fowler and told him he was interested, I think Fowler might be more willing to pull the gun. No way would he want to do for football what he just did with the head coach for basketball.

However,

I don't see that happening this year. As much as it would kick ass if he did. If Chuck has to win vs UNC to keep his job, he'll beat them. Bunting's already done, Chuck would have more to coach for IMO. Just like he's beaten FSU to keep himself in a job

You bitch about amato for his play of sub par QBs and you look towards cowher as a replacement?

Big ben is the worst QB in the league and the steelers wont even make the playoffs.

We dont need a lucky coach, we need a good one with some kind of eye for talent.

NFL coaches do not have the control over the players playing on their team as do collegiate coaches.

lucky hahaha

he uses the run game with a good O line

IF WE EVEN KNEW HOW TO BLOCK WE WOULD BE OK

we have the QBs to play, they just dont have the time to make those plays.
i seriously think Trestman is a good guy who knows what he is doing but its when he makes a play then Chuck changes that play, that is when we screw up.

Not to mention half of Cowhers Superbowl team is gone really...if u think about it.

i dont even think mr bettis had over 400 yards total last year and doubt his running on the occasional short yardage down kept ben from sucking complete ass.

Why would we want him. WE ARE NC STATE! We have such football tradition that we would never lower ourselves to someone who can't even beat the Raiders.

well lets see

Bettis the leader is gone, Randle El is gone, Porter is gone.

then this year
Quote :
"The offensive line that has been so steady in recent years looked like a patched together bunch of rookies and free agents against the Raiders. One of the most reliable components, center Jeff Hartings, will be out indefinitely will a knee injury, and running back Verron Haynes and linebacker Arnold Harrison expect to miss the rest of the season with knee injuries that also occurred Sunday."

without a good Line, not to mention a patchwork D that has been so crucial in recent years.

I mean its no excuse u are right, but its hard to keep such a good team together, and even harder to win again when so much of that team is gone.
