omg flash!
more significant than the election, and really not THAT shocking... but it seems like the repubs are going out with a whimper.
I'm thinking there may be some uncovered scandals in the wake of this.

Bush just said it. Bob Gates is now the new nominee for Secretary of Defense.

Yeah, but impeachment was off the table because they wanted Rumsfeld to run the administration and Republicans into the ground via Iraq struggles
With this, it's a new strategy...they can't really subpoena. so now there is a reason to go after the white house..
will they do it? who knows 11/8/2006 1:09:43 PM |

Are you watching the speech right now?
I think Bush is doing a good job speaking towards uniting and getting things done.
Specific emphasis on the question just asked regarding working with Pelosi who's called Bush a liar and dangerous, etc. 11/8/2006 1:22:42 PM |

he's an awful communicator. and i dont mean in mispronouncing words.
he also emphatically called her "CONGRESSWOMAN" Pelosi, obviously not willing to recognize her as Speaker yet.
I'm a Repbulican so I dont take issue with the fact that he did that, but he is obviously not trying to embrace them with open arms.
He's also not willing to admit that the SECDEF change was a result of the war. 11/8/2006 1:27:19 PM |
bgmims All American 5895 Posts user info edit post |
Wait, so you wanted him to say "Madam Speaker-Elect, possibly?"
Because you know she isn't necessarily the speaker, they have to decide that (and they will).

no, but if you listened, he emphasized "CONGRESSWOMAN"
im just telling you
you're drinking kool-aid if you think he's doing a good job in this speech.

Well I must be drinking the kool-aid. He said he would meet with the leadership and looks forward to finding common ground.
Specifically his answer to the "pull-out of Iraq" question where he said something to the effect of 'Some in Congress want to change approach to ensure success and you can find common ground in that' 11/8/2006 1:32:37 PM |

...which is at least half the reason the Dems shouldn't do it now. They fucking ran a campaign that may as well have just read "we're not them."
"They" impeached a president as a purely political move. The Dems should skip it and get right to health care, rolling back the retardo tax cuts, and actually working on fixing Bush's clusterfuck in Iraq.11/8/2006 1:55:51 PM |

^^^Yeah, the president lying under oath about getting oral sex is a obviously good reason to spend billions of tax payer dollars in an attempt to remove him from office.
It's the principle of the matter!

Exactly.
If Dems have half a brain (which it appears Nancy Pelosi does and people like John Conyers do not), they would not overreach on issues most do not support. We don't need to flashback to 1998.11/8/2006 2:09:55 PM |

I disagree on most issues with Pelosi, but I actually don't mind her very much as a person. I think she and Bush will actually be able to come to some compromises. But it will take a lot of work on both of their parts, because they do have some very derisive issues that they won't be able to work together on. Hopefully they can push those to the side and she can try again in '10 with a more giving president. 11/8/2006 2:24:28 PM |

especially when he pauses for 10 seconds just so he can think of the word he wants to say, or when he makes up words. Or better yet, when he completely botches sayings and proverbs that were not written down.
