yeahhh my candle overflowed onto the carpet. i looked it up online and one recommendation was to put some paper over it and then iron it, and pick it out of the carpet. anybody tried this? other ideas? 11/8/2006 4:27:05 PM |

The iron thing works, but I've always heard to use a piece of fabric rather than paper.

yeah i've never had this problem, but after reading the thread the iron thing sounds like a "oh yeah" common sense type solution, i'd go with that 11/8/2006 6:23:04 PM |

how would that help? i would think that once you heat the wax to the point that it's mobile, and putting downward pressure on it, would drive it further into the carpet...maybe if you had some material that has a higher affinity for wax than carpet 11/8/2006 7:05:04 PM |

depending on how much is there, putting a rag or something to soak it up would be better than nothing 11/8/2006 7:09:50 PM |

get some Goof Off, can be found at Lowes and it says it'll get rid of candle wax http://www.valspar.com/val/resident/goof-off.jsp
i've seen it do amazing thing removing sticky substances, i'm sure the chemicals in it will dissolve wax just as easily

wife and I had that happen. We got as much as we could up by hand (picking at it), then we ran the vaccuum cleaner over it and that got a lot more up. Eventually, we used a carpet cleaner and ran it over it a few times and i can't see any spots there now. Good Luck 11/8/2006 10:18:33 PM |

I tried the Iron/Towel thing and it worked. Doesn't get it out completely b/c some does sink pretty far down. But pretty much does the job. 11/8/2006 10:31:36 PM |

you have to remember that carpet melts when exposed to heat as it is typically made out of synthetic, thermoplastic fibers... therefore, it will never look the same again if the wax was hot enough to melt the fibers in the carpet... if your carpet is berber then it is probably permanately damaged. If it is regular carpet, then you may have a chance to salvage it and hide the damage... but I wouldn't suggest exposing the carpet to more heat because you will melt it and make it worse...
